Being a Post-Doctoral Fellow in School Psychology has its Advantages

The Devereux PA Children’s Behavioral Health Services (CBHS) has an opening for a Post-doctoral Fellow in Psychology for the 2018-2019 training year. The Fellow will play a leadership role across several projects designed to implement program-wide positive behavior interventions and supports (PWPBIS) across the CBHS programs. The fellowship will focus specifically on clinical and research skills to implementation science and PWPBIS, including training and consultation provided to school, residential and hospital personnel as they develop and implement universal and targeted inventions. There will be additional clinical responsibilities such as evaluation and consultation of individual students. The Fellow will be expected to contribute to dissemination activities (ie conference presentation preparation). This position is a one-year appointment pending continued funding.

Devereux’s CBHS is a nationally recognized Non-profit organization with its regional headquarters located in the greater Philadelphia Region. CBHS provides a continuum of mental health services for children, adolescents, and families. These services are Joint Commission Accredited and range from higher levels of care, such as our acute hospital program, through lower levels of care, such as community based programs. Within CBHS, the programs are configured into four major services lines consisting of the hospital program, three psychiatric residential programs, with high school and middle school components, community services and one Board of Education Approved Private Day School. CBHS’s psychiatric residential services are divided between the Mapleton, Stone and Gables and Brandywine programs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Consult with residential, school and psychiatric in-patient leadership teams to improve school, milieu climate and youth behavior,

  • Develop and implement training programs to promote evidenced-based practices and interventions,

  • Conduct function-based assessments and interventions for individual students as needed,

  • Participate in the design and implementation of applied research,

  • Assist in writing research proposals,

  • Disseminate research findings at national conferences,

  • Provide mentoring and supervision to junior staff.


  • This position is a one-year appointment beginning August 1, 2018 and pending continued funding and contingent on satisfactorily meeting performance expectations.

Position Requirements


  • Ph.D. in school Psychology or Clinical Psychology,
  • Experience in school and milieu settings,
  • Ability to oversee research projects,
  • Training in applied behavior analysis,
  • Strong interest in working with children with, or at-risk for, externalizing disorders,
  • BCBA or BCBA-eligible considered a plus,
  • Eligibility for Psychology licensure,
  • Excellent writing skills and record of publication and/or local or national presentations,
  • Strong communication and time management skills.

Education:Completed Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D. in School or Clinical Psychology.

Experience:Must have completed a pre-doctoral psychology internship of 2,000 hours (preferably APA-approved).
