Intern: MedImmune Antibody Discovery Protein Engineering
Development of non-natural amino acid expression technology
Location: Gaithersburg, MD
MedImmune is the worldwide biologics research and development arm of AstraZeneca, a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule and biologic prescription medicines. MedImmune is pioneering innovative research and exploring novel pathways across key therapeutic areas, including respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity; cardiovascular and metabolic disease; oncology; neuroscience; and infection and vaccines.
We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Biology or a related major for an internship during the summer of 2018. This internship opportunity is with the Antibody Discovery Protein Engineering department.
This intern will be testing the efficacy of incorporation of unnatural amino acids into proteins using racemic and enantiomerically pure compounds. The results will be interpreted to gain a better understanding of the function and kinetics of the enzyme that recognizes these compounds and a strategy evolved to improve the yields of this system.
- Maintain cell cultures and execute protein expressions
- Evaluate antibody expression levels
- Conduct conjugation reactions to antibodies and evaluate efficiency
- Perform laboratory experiments, analyze data, maintain laboratory notebook
- Deliver presentation and poster summarizing work
