Intern: MedImmune Antibody Discovery Protein Engineering

Development of non-natural amino acid expression technology

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Biology or a related major for an internship during the summer of 2018. This internship opportunity is with the Antibody Discovery Protein Engineering department.

This intern will be testing the efficacy of incorporation of unnatural amino acids into proteins using racemic and enantiomerically pure compounds. The results will be interpreted to gain a better understanding of the function and kinetics of the enzyme that recognizes these compounds and a strategy evolved to improve the yields of this system.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Maintain cell cultures and execute protein expressions
  • Evaluate antibody expression levels
  • Conduct conjugation reactions to antibodies and evaluate efficiency
  • Perform laboratory experiments, analyze data, maintain laboratory notebook
  • Deliver presentation and poster summarizing work

 
Position Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Knowledge of organic chemistry, reaction mechanisms, protein structure, and mass spectrometry
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Undergraduate Sophomore, Junior, Seniors
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0+
