T Cell Selection Intern

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

MedImmune is the worldwide biologics research and development arm of AstraZeneca, a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule and biologic prescription medicines. MedImmune is pioneering innovative research and exploring novel pathways across key therapeutic areas, including respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity; cardiovascular and metabolic disease; oncology; neuroscience; and infection and vaccines.

We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biological Science or related major for an internship during the summer of 2018. This internship opportunity is with the Cell Culture and Fermentation Sciences department.

The objective of this internship is to develop a process to control CD4/CD8 T cell enrichment for adoptive cell therapy.

Core Responsibilities:

  • CD4 and CD8 T cell enrichment from human blood
  • Analysis of experimental samples including: cell counting and lymphocyte phenotyping with flow cytometry
  • Primary T cell culture
  • Literature review to build knowledge and support experimental designs
  • Presentation of research at departmental meetings and to the full Company during a poster presentation
  • Thorough documentation of experiments in an electronic lab notebook

 
Position Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Current undergraduate Junior, Seniors
  • Preference for previous lab experience
  • Experience with aseptic technique and mammalian cell culture is a plus
  • Experience in immunology and/or culturing T lymphocytes is a plus
  • Good documentation, writing and communication skills are required
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0+
