Job Summary:

The Academy Oral History Projects Department invites current students of moving image archive studies or library & information programs to apply for a summer internship working with content produced by the Academy’s Visual History Program, a born-digital recording initiative of long-form video interviews with influential filmmakers.

We are seeking an organized and enthusiastic Intern who is fluent in Japanese (oral and written) and comfortable in a fast-paced production environment to assist the Oral History Projects’ staff in ongoing production, post-production, archival, and research activities supporting the Visual History Program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Timecode indexing of interviews from the Visual History Program collection
  • Research and write biographical summaries for interview subjects
  • Review recordings and write interview summaries
  • Output audio for transcription
  • Assist department staff with tasks related to transcription, DVD authoring, labeling, QC and updating inventories
  • Research Japanese film history
  • Assist in oral history production planning and logistics
  • Assist in day of shoot logistics, coordination (runner) and notetaking
  • Assist with Japanese written translation
  • Select interview highlights for use in topical clip reels
  • Assist in file and records management
  • Research aspects of digital oral history best practices, especially as they relate to providing access to multilingual content
 
Position Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in a degree program for moving image archive studies or library & information programs
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets (including Excel and Google Docs)
  • Experience in data entry and management
  • Advanced bilingual (English and Japanese) verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong collaboration and problem solving skills with the ability to multitask while managing various projects.

This internship is part of the Academy Gold Program, an 8-week internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
