Plant Production Superintendent 

Division Enterprise Precast Concrete of Texas  

The Plant Production Superintendent works with the Plant Manager in scheduling the activities of the crews and crew leaders in the construction and stripping of precast panels; directs, works alongside, and coaches the crews in performance of their work; communicates and collaborates with Quality Control, Steel Fabrication Foreman, and Batch Plant Foreman to optimize production quality and workflow; and assists the Plant Manager in interpreting and administering company policy.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:

  • Directs the daily production of precast products, in a safe and ethical manner, to ensure that architectural specifications and quality assurance requirements, such as PCI, are consistently met or exceeded, including fabrication of forms, construction and stripping of precast products and assisting in concrete mix requirements.
  • Assists Plant Manager in establishing and managing production schedules and table utilization.
  • Ensures that complete fabrication of an entire panel is accomplished by production personnel, enabling Quality Control personnel to provide an independent check of all work performed.
  • Attends daily production meetings to discuss production schedules, concerns, and opportunities for improvement, and to ensure ongoing organizational teamwork.
  • Works with crew leaders to ensure that all crew members are engaged in productive work throughout the entire workday.
  • Ensures that good housekeeping and safety practices are maintained in the plant and provides documentation of weekly safety meetings to the Plant Safety Coordinator.
  • Evaluates the work of precasters for the purpose of determining skill level, training needs, and potential for increased responsibility; and serves as a coach to help these employees expand their career opportunities
  • Serves as a role model for employees with regard to attendance, timeliness, loyalty, mutual respect and support for organizational teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Conducts preliminary performance appraisals of crew leaders and crew members and reviews with Plant Manager prior to discussing the appraisal with the employee.
  • Monitors actual production labor costs per panel versus the labor costs established in the bid, and engages production personnel in problem-solving if a negative trend is identified.
  • Works with the Plant Manager and production personnel to track and reduce the level of precast panel rework and fixes.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining plant safety in accordance with the Safety Manual.
  • Works with the Plant Manager to develop a list of prioritized constructive tasks for Production employees to perform when scheduled production work is delayed or postponed, including review of job training tapes, housekeeping tasks, facility maintenance, recordkeeping, etc.
Position Requirements

Qualification Requirements:

1. Education and Experience

HS Diploma or GED and a minimum of Five years of related experience in the architectural precast industry. Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.

2. Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze and interpret shop tickets and drawings, general business periodicals, technical procedures, technical specifications, cost analyses and governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present ideas and information to employees and managers. Ability to read and understand construction documents for building projects.

3. Technical/Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and to calculate discounts, percentages, area, circumference, periphery and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

4. Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and talk and hear. Manual lifting requirements are moderate to heavy, but with the assistance of other personnel and cranes.

6. Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those the employee encounters while performing the essential duties and responsibilities of the job. The work described will require the Production Foreman to be in the plant a majority of the time. This employee will be required to wear all safety equipment required of regular plant personnel, and may be exposed to fumes and airborne particles. The overall noise level is moderate, with occasional periods of loud noise.

This position that will require working outside year-round and therefore exposed to weather elements sometimes to include extreme cold and heat.
