Technical Services Intern

Job Summary:

The Technical Services Intern will work under the supervision of the library’s Head of Technical Services, with special projects assigned and supervised by the Scripts Librarian.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accessioning, cataloging and circulating library materials (scripts, books, periodicals, etc.).
  • Cataloging in Voyager ILS, ContentDM and other databases.
  • Performing clerical tasks that support the life cycle of library materials managed by the TSD.
 
Position Requirements
  • Enrollment in an ALA-accredited MLIS program or relative combination of film studies program and library work experience.
  • Experience with ExLibris Voyager system or other integrated library system (ILS).
  • Knowledge of national cataloging standards; in particular, application of RDA, AACR2, LCSH, and MARC21 formats for bibliographic and authority data.
  • Practiced in handling fragile materials.
  • Ability to lift and move moderately heavy boxes.
  • Experience scanning materials according to national standards for preservation preferred.
  • Capability working with foreign language materials preferred.
  • Familiarity with preservation techniques and condition assessment helpful.

This internship is part of the Academy Gold Program, an 8-week internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
