Job Summary:

The Academy Film Archive offers a small number of summer internships to current students enrolled in Archiving, Film Studies, Library and Information Studies, or other conservation-related programs. Internships at the Archive are project-based and interns can expect to gain experience in the everyday workings of a film archive, be introduced to our cataloging and collection management systems, and develop skills in how to properly handle and inspect film and video material.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create item lists of recently-arrived collections
  • Collection research
  • Entry and verification of catalog records in our in-house database
  • Quality control of video materials
  • Write descriptions and summaries of film/video content
  • Inspect and inventory motion picture film prints and/or elements
  • Provide general support for department activities related to records management and preservation.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate accredited program with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Education must continue in the fall following Academy internship
  • Minimum of one year of study towards degree in related field
  • Demonstrated interest in the film industry and in film history
  • Strong writing, verbal, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient computer skills

This internship is part of the Academy Gold Program, an 8-week internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
