Direct Service Professional - 24 Hour

This DSP position will work a compressed workweek including at least one 24hour shift in a workweek.

Compensation: $15.70 - $17.67 per hour depending on education and/or experience

Summary Position Statement:

These positions provide a primary role in supervising and supporting adults experiencing developmental disabilities within various 24 hour care settings A 24 hour Direct Service Professional's responsibility is to provide support and aid to clients in accomplishing goals and objectives. This position offers various work schedules and shifts, including 12 hour and 24 hour shifts in various worksites throughout the community. This position offers flexibility and the opportunity for advancement.

Examples of Duties:

  • Areas of support may include daily living skills, preparation of meals, recreation, community outings and integration activities, and other activities which will assist client(s) in working toward increasing levels of independence.
  • Provides client support and direct instruction as outlined in the Individual Service Plan (ISP); to meet the client's goals and objectives.
  • Provides client support and life modeling in all areas of daily living including personal hygiene, financial management, household management, self-medication, meal planning and preparation, employment support, social skill development, and recreation.
  • Transports clients to various appointments and activities using your personal vehicle.
  • Communicates effectively with all members of the service delivery team including clients, parents, agency staff, and other service agency representatives.
  • Complete all required agency paperwork and documentation including progress notes, ISP goals and interventions, etc. in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a safe environment for clients at all times, taking into consideration their special needs; and be prepared to respond to an emergency situation, if necessary.
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures, and ensures client confidentiality as prescribed by agency policy and various Federal and State Laws.
  • Responsible for achieving the Medicaid provider certifications and training within 30 days of employment and maintenance of certifications throughout employment.
  • Resonsible for completing and submitting on-line service notes documenting the medicaid reimbursable services provided during each shift with 24 hours of completing the shift.

Minimum Qalifications:
* High School Diploma or Equivelant
* At least 18 years of age for non-transporting positions.
* At least 21 years of age for positions that involve transporting and/or mileage reimbursment
* Valid Driver License with at least 3 years of driving experience
* Reliable personal vehicle to use for work.

Must achieve the following certifications and training within 30 days of employment:

* Background Check Clearance from the State of Alaska BCU program
* Current CPR/First Aide certification (6hrs)
* Current TB screen
* Blood Borne Pathogens Training Certificate (1hr)
* Critical Incident Report Training Certificate (15 minutes)
* HIPAA Training Certificate (15 minutes)
* ASAM Training Certificate (2hrs)

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. 
  • AA or BA in related field preferred. 
  • Minimum six months experience (paid or volunteer) providing direct patient/client care or an equivalent level of education or training which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential job functions.


  • Minimum age 21
  • TB clearance and First Aid Certification is required within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
  • A successful DHSS criminal background and fingerprint check, prior to employment.
  • Driving is a requirement of this position.  Applicant must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current Alaska Driver’s License, have been a licensed driver for a minimum of three years, and provide Agency with proof of current Auto Insurance Coverage and State Motor Vehicle Driver’s History Report, prior to employments

  •  Effective problem solving skills, and the desire to function as a team member. 
  • Ability to assist clients in their daily activities, which may require occasional heavy lifting; and potential contact with blood borne pathogens.
