Description

PacArctic is hiring a full time Engineer Scientist V to work on site supporting PAC and our government customer in the Boulder, CO area.

The Engineer Scientist V is recognized within the applicable field as an "expert" and will be sought out to work with groups and technical peers, within and outside the Government, on complex, sophisticated scientific matters. Is expected to work independently on assignments requiring considerable innovation and possess indisputable engineering or scientific knowledge.

The Engineer Scientist V is responsible for establishing and enforcing technical approaches and standards in the engineering/scientific/analytical process, and the application of automated support tools.

Duties typically involve performing engineering services that may include but are not limited to the following: engineering studies and analyses; technology planning; systems architecture development; requirements development; concept development; systems design; system development and integration; test and evaluation; systems operation; construction; control of systems and components; integrated logistics support; modeling and simulation; configuration management; and systems acquisition and life-cycle management in compliance with current Industry and Government practices.

 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated proficiency is required in coordinating overall program research and analysis, needs assessment, process and technology development, bench/pilot/full-scale technology demonstration and evaluation, product and process implementation, systems integration, and technology transfer in a concurrent engineering or scientific environment. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. Relies on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Has ability to conduct data collection and analysis of technical projects, to provide research, writing, and logistical support, and to prepare technical reports, and present findings. May be required to lead and/or provide guidance to other engineers and technicians.

Requires a formal education in the field of engineering or similar discipline with extensive experience with meteorological and/or oceanographic and scientific equipment; specifically design, development, and operation.

Also have proven ability to lead a team of engineers in the development, deployment, and operation of equipment, and provide assistance to scientists who will operate and interpret data collected from equipment. May require leading a team of engineers/scientists in the development, deployment and operation of systems designed to meet a research and/or operational need.

Bachelor’s in Engineering (Master’s Preferred); or equivalent in a related field required.

Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience.

Working Environment & Conditions

This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The work load may require the incumbent to stand for extended periods of time. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Includes travel to local, remote and out of state locations.
