Processing Archivist

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of Production Files under the supervision of the Head of Core Collection Reference Files, the Processing Archivist is responsible for processing paper and digital content in the Core Collection Reference Files of the Margaret Herrick Library. Duties include: archiving websites related to film releases, film festivals, and film blogs utilizing web archiving applications; processing paper-based collections of clippings and film advertising ephemera such as lobby cards, press books, ads and programs; searching, retrieving and processing digital press kits for current releases.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Archive film websites using Archive-IT and other web archiving tools.
  • Sort, organize and rehouse archival collections related to film advertising materials such as press books, lobby cards, and promotional ephemera.
  • Enter descriptive metadata into inventory template and library databases.
  • Assist department in requesting and processing digital press kits.
  • Create and update holdings information in library databases.
  • Additional department tasks and projects as assigned.
 
Position Requirements
  • Master's degree in library and information science or archival studies from an accredited program.
  • Bachelor’s degree in film studies, history, art history or related field.
  • Two years of experience in an archive or library preferred.
  • Understanding of archival principles, digital preservation practices and current metadata standards.
  • Familiarity with integrated library systems, content management systems and digital asset management systems.
  • Ability to carefully handle fragile documents.
  • Knowledge of, and interest in, film history and research.
  • Experience with processing born digital materials preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to lift boxes up to 40 pounds.
