Intern: AstraZeneca Innovative Medicines

Location: Waltham, MA

The primary function of the Medicinal Chemistry Intern is the synthesis of drug candidates by conducting laboratory projects/experiments and in support of this to generate, interpret, and report complex scientific data.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Performs chemical experiments accurately and efficiently by working closely with their supervisor while following SOPs and safety/environmental protocols.
  • Synthesizes, purifies, acquires and analyzes data of chemical intermediates from multi-step syntheses and final drug candidates that are submitted for biological evaluation.
  • Documents results of experiments in their laboratory notebook in compliance with the laboratory notebook SOPs. Experimental details should be captured in a fashion sufficient to facilitate reproducibility.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and instruments with a high degree of technical proficiency.
  • Frequently updates supervisor with detailed communication of results. Presents experimental results in project and/or team meeting environment.
  • Keeps own knowledge current regarding appropriate techniques and scientific advances, applying knowledge to the job responsibilities.

 
Position Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Need to have completed organic chemistry I and II coursework and labs
  • Previous undergraduate research experience preferred but not required
  • Qualifying applicants must be currently enrolled in, or have recently completed a BS, BA degree program in chemistry or a related science
  • Applicants who hold a PhD will not be considered.
