Description

JOB SUMMARY: Performs work on piping systems transporting liquids, gases, and steam, including both supply and drain piping and related fixtures; and related control and metering equipment.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains, repairs, and replaces potable and water systems made from metal or plastic, including piping and related supports, fixtures such as faucets, toilets, fittings, pumps, hot water tanks, etc., and related equipment such as drinking fountains, hot water heaters, heat exchangers, softeners, etc.

  • Maintains, repairs, and replaces sewage and storm water systems made from clay, metal or plastic, including piping, vents, and required supports, for liquids such as sewage, storm runoff, acids, solvents, and other lab wastes; and including such equipment as dilution basins, grease traps, and neutralization tanks.

  • Maintains, repairs, and replaces gas systems that supply laboratories, equipment, and shops, including vacuum, compressed air, natural gas, propane, and carbon dioxide, along with associated piping, fittings, valves, controls, and pumps.

  • Maintains, repairs, replaces and operates low and medium pressure steam systems, including boilers, valves, control valves, piping, pumps (e.g., condensate), fittings, heat exchangers, controls, traps, meters, and other associated components.
 
Position Requirements

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • 2-4 years’ experience in the plumbing field required.

  • Minimum of a high school diploma.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Knowledge of government and association building codes and work practices involved in the plumbing profession.

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects over 50 lbs. and to move and transport materials and equipment weighing in excess of 200 lbs. with assistance.

  • Ability to climb ladders and to work in confined spaces or elevated platforms.
