Description

Are you a self-starting, mechanically inclined troubleshooter who loves the challenge of diagnosing and fixing issues within a larger system? Are you confident in assessing, separating and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems? Do you have experience working with customers to solve their problems and setting them up to succeed moving forward? Are you comfortable building relationships with end users to become a trusted partner/supplier?

The ITW MIG Gun Division (Bernard and Tregaskiss) is currently looking for an additional Field Technical Support Specialist (FTSS) to supplement our existing world-class Technical Support team. This person will report directly to the Technical Services Manager. This position can be based anywhere in the Midwest.

This FTSS will be tasked with supporting our existing customer base with the fast, reliable technical assistance they’ve come to expect from Bernard/Tregaskiss. This person will also be responsible for assisting our outside sales team members target and win new business by offering superior technical support by way of troubleshooting, technical/repair training, product recommendations and equipment optimization. Our FTSS team also works with our Product Line Managers at both Bernard and Tregaskiss to identify trends in the field (product needs, customer pains, etc.) and help to see through field trial testing by being on-site at customer locations.

This FTSS will need to be able to travel at least 60% of the time within the USA to regularly support major end users in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Occasional trips to major accounts on either coast (Washington, Oregon, California, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Virginia) will also be required.

This position may also be required to make some other international trips periodically – including, but not limited to Canada, Mexico, Asia and/or Europe. The ideal candidate will also have strong written and verbal communication skills, strong Microsoft suite skills (Word, Excel, Power Point) and is proficient in web-based solutions (Concur, Salesforce.com, etc.) A company truck, phone, laptop and tool kit will be provided. Relocation assistance may also be provided.

Preference will be given to candidates that have strong mechanical aptitude, industrial controls experience (Ethernet IP, Allen Bradley, Siemens PLC, etc.), high-production manufacturing experience and automated welding/maintenance experience. Mechanical Engineering or Millwright experience/training is also an asset.

 
Position Requirements

Required Education, Experience:

  • Post-secondary Engineering degree or technical diploma equivalent (min. 3 yr. program)

  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience – welding engineer, weld tech, maintenance manager, etc.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • Experience in managing customer expectations in production environments – automotive industry preferred.

  • Experience troubleshooting industrial controls – Ethernet IP, PLCs, robot programming, etc.

  • Understanding of the GMAW welding process and equipment – weld engineering or automotive production experience is an asset.

  • A strong mechanical aptitude, including experience maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical equipment

  • Strong troubleshooting skills – demonstrated ability to separate and evaluate individual systems (pneumatic, mechanical and electrical) to determine root cause/failure mode(s).

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills are essential to this role

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft applications and web-based solutions.
