Description

This is a great opportunity to join the rapidly growing Fiber Optics Division of Thorlabs, a leading company in the exciting Photonics industry. Engineers work in a team environment focused on meeting customer's needs and expectations through product development. The ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial, self-motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced, creative environment. The Fiber Optics division oversees the development and production of all fiber optics related products, which includes optical fiber made of various materials, cables, and devices. This position is for a mid-level individual with an Engineering background. The ideal candidate will have direct experience in the product and process design of fiber optic cables and components applications ranging from research laboratories to medical and industrial applications.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Solid multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge and skill in: Opto-Mechanics and Fiber Optics.
  • Proficient with engineering design tools such as SolidWorks, Zemax, etc.
  • Design products for manufacturability.
  • Familiarity with Best-Practice Manufacturing Techniques (GD&T, SPC, 6Sigma, and Lean Principles).
  • Good Communication Skills.
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
  • The successful candidate will interact with a broad range of other Engineers, production line purchaser/planner, marketing /sales and production line assembly technicians within the Fiber Optics team as well as with other groups.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher level) in Optical, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics.
  • 2+ Years' Hands-on experience in the photonics industry, laser or physics lab.
  • Strong communication and project management discipline.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Skills.

Preferred:

  • 2+ years' experience in fiber optic cable design
  • Experience with medical applications of fiber optics and ISO Standards.
  • Experience with ruggedized/hermetic cable design for various application.
