SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor the Custodian will be responsible for the daily cleaning of buildings. Employees in these job classifications are under immediate supervision and perform various duties requiring moderate physical strength. Typical duties may include some or all of the following: dust mopping, sweeping, wet mopping, dusting, cleaning restrooms, removing trash, polishing furniture and simple operation of basic mechanical cleaning equipment.

Responsible for providing the day-to-day training and supervision of individuals served with disabilities. This person will also work closely with the Case Manager to plan and provide work related supportive services such as assistance with hygiene, meals, and transportation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Reinforce and positively engage in Opportunity Village’s organizational culture supporting choice and creativity of clients and of staff.
  2. Provide department specific training/mentoring for all new employees and continuing training/mentoring for current employees.
  3. Provide managers with information regarding staff performance.
  4. Required to read service and habilitation plans for all individuals served in the program to assure each individual is receiving their proper care according to their plan(s).
  5. Ensure proper documentation is complete (i.e. ID notes, Incident reports and corrective action)
  6. Report suspected Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation (ANE) within 24 hours as mandated by state law.
  7. Provide leadership and direction to the individuals served.
  8. Evaluate and inspect the performance to guarantee quality assurance.
  9. Prioritize work ensure the job scope is being accomplished on a daily basis.
  10. Responsible for maintaining inventory to maintain a standard level of supplies.
  11. Provide job coaching, as well as assisting the Career Advocate to identify vocational strengths, challenges, and goals for each individual served.
  12. Provide manual labor associated with the daily cleaning of buildings.
  13. Typical duties may include: dusting, mopping, sweeping, cleaning restrooms, removing trash, polishing furniture and simple operation of basic mechanical cleaning equipment.
    • Scrub and clean restroom fixtures and keep restrooms supplied with towels, soap and other items.
    • Dust and clean walls, door, windows, woodwork and other above floors surfaces.
  14. Ability to perform all duties to ensure assigned area is cleaned to specifications which may including vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, mopping and use of equipment to clean carpets.

  15. Perform duties as assigned.

 
Position Requirements

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, co-workers and supervisors (verbal and written).
  • Ability to care, respond and work with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Have knowledge of use and proper mixing of the chemicals used for cleaning of site.
  • Must encompass professional demeanor and to execute excellent customer service.
  • Ability to define problems and draw valid conclusions.
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to interpret instructions, gain knowledge and have initiative.
  • Knowledge of custodial operations and building maintenance and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year verifiable work experience in the custodial field.
  • Preferred: Prior experience with developmentally disabled individuals.
  • Required: Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certification or the ability to supply certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Required: Current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification is required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk 90% of the work day.
  • Ability to work in a typical office environment as well as a work center and community businesses with high level of noise.
  • Frequent bending, standing and lifting.
