Youth Life Educator Supervisor

Role Description - The role of the Youth Life Educator Supervisor is to assure that the implementation and execution of the child care practice is consistent with Agency philosophy and mission. The person in this position is also responsible for supervising the practice of Youth Life Education and managing the daily operations of the cottage. The Youth Life Educator Supervisor will continue to maintain involvement in direct practice by being an advisor to at least one student in the Group Home and thus continue to model all the components of being a Youth Life Educator.

Accountability - The person in this position reports to the Director of The Family Help Center and provides practice supervision to Youth Life Educator staff.

KEY RESULT AREA #1 - Staff Training and Supervision

This KRA will be successfully completed when the Coordinator:

1. Works regular shifts with each staff member in a designated Group Home operated by The Children's Guild. The Supervisor is expected to work at a minimum of 40 hours per week and flexibility this respect to days of the week.

2. Participates in the orientation process and documents, for personnel records, the orientation of the Youth Life Educator staff.

3. Participates in evaluations of the Youth Life Educator staff as directed by the Director of the Therapeutic Group Homes.
4. Provide on-going supervision and performance assessments to Youth Life educators.

5. Provides consistent on-line supervision to Youth Life Educator staff in their
Group home while they are on their shift.

6. Continually interprets Agency mission and philosophy to Agency staff and
holds them accountable.

7. Assures time sheet accuracy and shift coverage.

8. Safety and orderliness of the residence is assured by monitoring implementation
of designated staff tasks.

KEY RESULT AREA #2 - Interpretation

This KRA will be successfully completed when:

1. The Group Homes physically reflect the Agency Philosophy.

2. The Youth Life Educator Supervisor participates in both the curriculum and administrative meetings operated on a weekly basis. Responsible to facilitate weekly staff meetings.

3. The Group Homes operate in an efficient and effective manner that impacts the
lives of the students in a change oriented manner.

4. Responsible for implementing curriculum into the program through modeling and training to the Youth Life Educators.

KEY RESULT AREA #3 - Direct Teaching Role with Students

This KRA will be successfully completed when:

1. Continues to model what it means to be a good Youth Life Educator by:

A. Working with individuals.
B. Working with groups.
C. Working with families.
D. Working with referral workers.

2. Assures that medical and dental needs of the students in the therapeutic group homes are appropriately met.

3. Assures that the therapeutic group home environment conveys a sense of dignity, pride, and aesthetic appeal.

KEY RESULT AREA #4 - Additional Responsibilities

This KRA will be carried out when:

1. Participates in any other groups or committees assigned by the Director of The
Therapeutic Group Homes.

2. Participates effectively in the on-call system.

3. Continually carries out the work-place expectations.

4. Completes assignments directed by the Director of the Therapeutic Group Homes.

5. Support is given to maintaining all standards for licensing and accreditation.

6. Positive general attitude to students, other staff and the public is maintained.

7. There is compliance with all policies and procedures of the agency. Meet all regulatory compliance mandates.

8. Attendance at all appropriate meetings and training sessions is regular and

9. Monitor all PRP services and documentation.

10. Monitor medication administration.

11. Reconciliation of petty cash, allowance to students, restitution accounts, and activity money.

12. Facilities safety, Monitor and ensure vehicle safety and documentation.

Position Requirements

The qualifications of this position include the interest and drive to develop the potential of other people and the interpersonal skills necessary to do so.  The successful candidate will also possess a value system that is consistent with The Children's Guild philosophy and goals, be mentally alert, physically healthy and possess the stamina needed to work with children in a dynamic environment.  The person in this position must also possess a desire to grow, learn and change, and to serve as a role model.

Bachelors degree preference given to candidates with degree in social work, psychology, or related field and five years of successful experience in residential care.  Three years pertinent supervisory/management experience.   Up to two years of pertinent supervisory/management experience may be substituted for up to two years of residential experience.  The person in this position must also have a valid driver's license in the state of residence.
