Description

The Optical Networking and Sensing research department at NEC Laboratories America in Princeton, NJ has multiple summer internship positions available for a period of three to six months for graduate students. Our group engages in advanced researches in various optical sensing areas, including distributed fiber optic sensing and free space optical sensing.

The on-going projects include novel optical sensing techniques, sensor interrogator design and optimization, digital signal processing and data mining techniques, intelligent event classification, and field experiment and application verification. Students will work closely with group members on new research problems, with potential for publication in premier conferences.

 
Position Requirements

We are seeking self-motivated graduate students in the area of telecommunications. The candidates must be enrolled in a PhD program with solid technical knowledge, hands-on experiment skill, and strong publication record on one or more of the following areas:
• Distributed fiber optic sensing
• Spectroscopy-based optical gas sensing
• Optical technologies for food sensing
• DSP for noise reduction and system stabilization
• Machine learning for object/event identification and recognition
