JOB SUMMARY

The overriding business objective for this position will be to help successfully develop new electrical power conversion products that support AES being a world-recognized leader in aircraft electrical power systems for small to mid-sized business jets, UAV’s and rotorcraft.

The key performance objectives for this position are described below.

1. Goal and Schedule Oriented. The ultimate objective for this position is to develop new products requiring an attention to detail and focus to satisfy tasks in the timeline that supports internal and external customers. This requires aptitude to complete both individual and team tasks in a timely manner but also commitment to support project goals. This trait will support product time to market and build a strong confidence with customers, both internal and external. Evidence of this factor will be an understanding of the importance of meeting time deadlines, ability to learn and adapt to new tasks quickly, taking initiative to fill gaps on team projects, and assists other team members to support program goals.

2. Development Engineering Skills. The primary tasks of the Mechanical Engineer will be to work on development of new products in the Astronics Aircraft Power and Control product line. Development tasks consist of innovative conceptual designs, thorough detail design and documentation, structural analysis, thermal analysis, environmental test support, failure analysis, and production support. These efforts require creativity, application of mechanical engineering software tools, hands on testing, problem solving and decision-making. The successful engineer will have or be able to develop expertise in all these categories. This requires an ability to learn quickly and a commitment to multiple mechanical engineering disciplines. The successful candidate will be able to be contribute support development teams with responsibility for individual mechanical engineering tasks within one month of hire.

3. Develop a cooperative working relationship with internal engineering resources. The Mechanical Engineer will contribute to a collaborative relationship with engineering staff at Astronics. This involves working with other disciplines including systems, electrical and software engineering. The successful candidate will promote cooperation among team members, provide technical concepts and feedback, assist in development of less experienced team members, and ask questions of experienced staff to develop their own skills.

4. Design. The Mechanical Engineer will develop electronic packaging designs that meet weight, cost, performance and manufacturability requirements. This involves understanding impact of design decisions on all requirements and applying a continuous focus on meeting requirements from concept design through product qualification. The successful candidate will deliver AES optimized designs that result in superior products for a competitive marketplace.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 years related experience

  • Electronic packing design experience is preferred

  • Skilled in solid modeling software tool, SolidWorks is preferred

  • Experience with design for aircraft environments is preferred

  • Education: Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering
