Customer Overview

Public and private schools that provide welding education to high school and post-secondary schools.

Since most welding programs do not compete, welding instructor professionals are collaborative and like to networks and share experiences to help their schools and colleges be successful.

Position Overview

The position will be customer-centric versus product-centric. It will require understanding the deeper needs and buying motives of the welding education programs and ensuring the product fits.

The position will be responsible for market segment insight, support territory managers and product categories, and provide analysis, with the goal to grow sales and increased market penetration for manufactures represented.

The territory is To be defined

Travel will be 50% primarily by air to national meetings, conferences and targeted areas, with overnight expectations. Some travel by car to local customers.

Building personal and brand relationship is the key to success. Active support of state associations by being engaged at meetings, conferences, education sessions and being an advocate for all post-secondary and high school welding programs.



  • Provide stories and guidance using insights and reporting to influence action to support the manufactories principals
  • Merge new and prior selling information into concise, effective presentation materials for internal and external meetings and for use by territory managers
  • Manage selling plan based on recommendations from sales and product teams
  • Coordinate the development and execution of targeted school growth strategies in conjunction with the sales team.

Marketing Maintenance & Support

  • Actively participate in state association meeting and conferences
  • Actively manage ongoing schedule of direct marketing activities and updates
  • Apply insights, market data, and rationale to direct marketing update process
  • Collaborate both internally and externally to drive continuous improvement and optimization of product categories penetration in the school market.
  • Develop a social media plan and keep it current with relative information

Manage Data Systems & Tools

  • Become proficient in acquiring and using relevant public and non-public data
  • Analyze and customize data of the school welding program market
  • Effectively communicate findings to TBD, principals & customers


  • Create, streamline, and automate customer and category reporting
  • Provide recommendations & direction based on insights gained from analysis of the data


  • Contribute relevant insights and guidance to the planning process
  • Define opportunities by providing key information
  • Prepare presentation materials
  • Conduct performance analysis against plan

Understand and leverage data management systems and tools

Demonstrate problem-solving agility and flexibility when faced with change and challenge

Position Requirements


• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an account or channel manager preferably for hard-goods, software and/or training devices into education facilities particularly at the secondary & post-secondary level.

• Demonstrated ability to analyze account specific needs to develop and implement a strategic plan and to grow business.

• Thorough understanding of the business dynamics of education market and industry and able to speak to the latest welding and training needs

• Strategic selling skills with a command of value-added sales techniques

• Comfortable with ambiguity and ability to thrive within a matrix organizational structure

• Ability to develop and manage relationships with key decision makers and influencers

along with management of external partners, understanding how to develop and maintain key relationships

• Background and experience preferred in an instructor-led training business.

• Proven aptitude for developing relationships with key decision makers with Department of Education setting or post-secondary administration level.

• Proven track record of development and implementation of programs, products and welding standards into a traditional education market.

• A proven track record of exceptional organizational, planning and negotiating skills in addition to exceptional verbal and written communication

• Must be highly motivated and results oriented with the ability to work independently and in a team environment with ability to easily adapt to change, and consistently meet deadlines. Ability to make independent decisions and regularly suggest ways to improve services and processes.

• Strong PC skills/aptitude. Intermediate Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and exposure to Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems (
