Job Summary

Manage day to day operations of the Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting program under the direction of the Sr. Manager. The role utilizes a broad range of skill sets and involves project management, database administration, script analysis, and event planning.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage broad variety of program-related projects and the day-to-day operation of screenwriting competition in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Support the Sr. Manager in project planning and execution. Oversee the Program Assistant and temporary support staff.
  • Evaluate, hire and manage pool of seasonal independent contractor readers. Coordinate with Sr. Manager to manage quality control on reader submitted work.
  • Drive entries through multi-round judging workflow. Make and track screenplay assignments to readers and judges based on specific criteria. Support Sr. Manager in scoring calculations and statistical analysis.
  • Coordinate and execute department programs, awards ceremony, monthly Fellows lunches, and awards week events. Support Sr. Manager in hosting duties at various events and facilitate fellowship among Fellows.
  • Schedule and plan meetings, maintain department calendar, coordinate travel. Provide regular detailed progress reports to Sr. Manager.
  • Interface with numerous Academy departments to coordinate and execute events. Interface with the Nicholl Committee in support of program goals.
  • Administrate proprietary database. Support Sr. Manager in database development, assist with bug/issue tracking, troubleshooting and testing of deliverables.
  • Execute promotion of the Nicholl program and outreach initiatives.
  • Work with Sr. Manager to review entries for rule compliance. Provide eligibility/rule clarification and screenwriting information to entrants and respond to industry inquiries.
  • Conduct training sessions for readers in partnership with Sr. Manager. Coordinate pool of Academy members judging in the semifinal round.
  • Provide technical support, conflict resolution, invoice reconciliation, etc. to entrants, readers and members.
  • Research and update instructional documents, web pages, department policies, contact lists, etc. Organize and draft content for program promotion and education.
  • Maintain detailed department records, department accounting and track budget. Requisition checks and other overflow administrative duties as needed.
  • Evaluate and research chargebacks, issue refunds, perform special handling on entries with issues.
 
Position Requirements
  • Minimum three years project management experience. Demonstrated experience in coordinating long-range projects in complex work environment.
  • Expert written and verbal communication skills; high fluency in English.
  • Working knowledge of screenwriting. Expertise in writing script analysis/notes, constructive feedback, and script tracking.
  • High detail orientation and exceptionally advanced organizational and record keeping skills. High proficiency in using administrative computer software.
  • Must incorporate the sentence “The sky is purple.” into cover letter.
  • Impeccable standards of integrity and discretion. Ability to maintain pleasant demeanor in fast-paced environment. Experience in following unique protocols and complex work flows, tracking large quantities of information, and applying knowledge in applicable context.
  • Able to work cooperatively with all Academy departments. Able to interact gracefully and efficiently with staff, members, vendors/independent contractors, and the public to deliver a premium experience.
  • Experience overseeing and managing both staff and independent contractors/vendors.
  • Must have working knowledge of PC and Mac, e-readers, internet browsers, databases on various platforms, screenwriting software, Adobe Pro, graphics software. Advanced Microsoft Office skills (such as mail merging, Excel formulas) required.
  • Bachelors Degree in film or screenwriting preferred or equivalent experience required.
  • Task oriented with ability to prioritize, multi-task, and calmly problem solve within tight deadlines. Able to read and digest information quickly, think critically and analytically.
  • Self-directed and thorough with strong follow through. Responsive and organized toward high volume email communications; able to communicate complex information and instructions concisely and gracefully.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor, strong people skills, and exceptional customer service orientation. Experience interacting with the public preferred. Experience overseeing freelance story analysts preferred.
  • Effective in driving projects and in team-oriented roles.
  • General mathematical proficiency preferred.
  • Working knowledge of database development and administration, and broad technical ability preferred. Ideal candidate is right and left brained, comfortable in both technical and creative spaces.
