Description

Essential duties for the position include: Perform all horse-care and stable duties, Feed hay and grain, Adjust blankets as needed in winter, Put on and take off fly masks and apply fly spray in summer, Turn horses out and bring them back in, Dump, clean and fill water buckets in stalls and pastures, Muck stalls, change bedding as needed, Sweep aisles, Provide instruction to vocational students in stable management and horse care, Schedule hay/grain delivery and veterinary/farrier/saddle fitter services with relevant providers as necessary, Complete purchase orders for required items/services, Tack and un-tack horses for lessons,exercise lesson horses and maintain training schedule, Remain aware of issues affecting program, Electronic mail implementation, Maintain safety with instructional and physical plant environment, Adhere to Glenholme School standards and Code of Character to include global standards for attire & confidentiality and professional implementation of applicable policies and procedures.

Work hours for this position would be Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8am to 12 pm and rotating weekends with Saturdays and Sundays at 10am to 12pm and 5 to 6 pm.

Position Requirements

ACADEMIC EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

An Associates or Bachelors degree in Equine Sciences, Education, Recreation, Human Services, Psychology, or related field is preferred. Must be able to demonstrate stable management skills.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Ability to recognize signs of equine health and disease. Understanding of stable management procedures including how to maintain and teach the maintenance of a safe and clean stable environment. Nutritional maintenance. Ability to teach grooming, tack cleaning, and correct tacking and un-tacking procedures. Ability to correctly and safely lunge and ride school horses to maintain fitness and training.
