About the Organization KMHS is Kitsap's nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. Pperform a comprehensive psychiatric medical assessment of the client and to participate in the planning and development of a treatment approach which includes all aspects of the bio/psychosocial model. Aauthor a discharge plan that accurately represents the Youth Inpatient Unit (YIU) course of treatment and the handoff to outpatient services. Provide clinical leadership and teaching and incorporate and use the observation and expertise of other members of the treatment team. Be aware of the limitations and the capabilities of the treatment unit so that a functional, doable approach can be taken. Maintain and enhance the functioning of the treatment unit so the most effective approach possible can be taken. Use knowledge from psychiatry as well as related disciplines in all of these endeavors. Partner with the other inpatient ARNP’s, and provide cross coverage during absences.


  • Provide both medical and psychiatric admission evaluations for clients admitted to the Unit, taking into consideration requirements for those detained under the Involuntary Treatment Act.
  • Provide ongoing psychiatric and medical treatment including obtaining necessary consultation for a maximum of 10 adolescent patients. This includes evaluation and monitoring of both psychiatric and medical medications, other somatic treatments as well as psychosocial aspects of treatment.
  • Participate as a team member of the inpatient services, keeping in mind the above stated purpose.
  • Take primary responsibility for providing court testimony regarding YIU clients
  • Participate in development of medical/nursing policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance utilization review for the Unit and for the agency as a whole.
  • Coordinate clinical decisions with outpatient treatment teams.
  • Provide charting/reports and client documentation as necessary in a complete, accurate, and timely manner.
  • Author a discharge plan that accurately represents the YIU course of treatment and the handoff to outpatient or other services.
  • Be a supportive partner of the Inpatient Float ARNP, who will help when help is needed on the YIU.
  • When either the Lead ARNP on AIU or the Inpatient Float ARNP is absent, to partner with the other to provide service to both the AIU and the YIU.
  • Participate in the weekly KMHS medication provider meeting.
  • Meet with the Chief Medical Officer regularly for supervision.
  • Participate in the recurrent Inpatient Medication Provider Educational Consultation.
  • Participate in education program for KMHS clinical staff.
  • In addition to the above, any other responsibilities appropriate to the position and not specifically listed in the job description.
Position Requirements

ARNP license with prescriptive authority in the State of Washington with a psychiatric specialty.
