Lucas Systems seeks to hire a Solution Consultant located in close proximity to Cologne, Germany.

The Solution Consultant at Lucas Systems plays an integral role on our team by working directly with customers to identify opportunities to optimise their workflow in the distribution centers and better engage their employees, resulting in higher productivity, accuracy and service levels. In addition, they see through with the management of the project to ensure an optimal customer experience with the design and delivery of the solution.

Working with our Sales team and our Lead Engineers, the Solution Consultant participates in sales discovery, creates a solution design, and develops the business case (ROI) to communicate the potential value and impact of the Lucas solution. The Solution Consultant will then own the P&L responsibility for assigned projects and be responsible for successfully managing solution definition, design and implementation. Working with the Lead Engineers, the Solution Consultant ensures communication of the solution requirements and customer expectations are addressed in the functional design and specifications of the solution. They are responsible for consulting with the customer on readiness for change and leading customer training and project installations to ensure the successful implementation, adoption, and utilisation of software implementations in the customer’s environment.


  • Develop clear and differentiating value propositions by conducting an analysis of DC processes and operations, in support of the business development process.
  • By partnering with the Lucas sales manager, work with potential customers to justify a project and help develop a business case along with Return on Investment. Work with the customer’s sponsor through the internal project authorisation processes.
  • Define functional and technical requirements of the solution and identify scope of work.
  • Work with the engineering team to develop an engineering estimate for the solution.
  • Work with Lucas engineering team to develop solution designs and workflows to address the prospective customer requirements.
  • Support functional development initiatives for the proposed solution.
  • Continue to develop and share industry/domain expertise and business acumen.
  • P&L responsibility, which includes change management/negotiations, invoice management and financial responsibility for the cost of executing the project. Develop project requirements, including participation in planning and design sessions with customers and Lucas engineering teams to determine the functional scope and deliverables of each project.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer communications during project execution and system installation; managing customer expectations, project scope and risks.
  • Develop and communicate the project strategy and plan needed to achieve the project deliverables with the software team; proactively lead internal team members to deliver on customer requirements on time and within budget; identify potential risks and take actions to mitigate same; track all issues and action items to closure.
  • Track and report project status to immediate project team and the Executive Team.
  • Develop and maintain a change management and training methodology to assess and equip the customer and the Lucas team with approaches and tools to ensure customer is fully prepared and organisationally ready for system implementation.
  • Ensure system and training documentation representing projected use of the solution represents actual use, including maintaining such documents for maximum effectiveness.
  • Maintain regular communication with the customer and project teams, ensuring they are in lockstep throughout the implementation phase.
  • Provide training and end-user support; monitor customer use and satisfaction, escalate issues for resolution to the project team during the implementation and post-implementation phases until transition to software services team.
  • Travel to customer sites as necessary in sales, planning, execution, and implementation phases; maintain exceptional post implementation customer relationships through regular communication to monitor satisfaction and identify add-on sales opportunities.

    Position Requirements

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline required.
    • MBA or equivalent experience in business analysis preferred.
    • Technical/Engineering Degree.
    • 2+ years of proven record of accomplishment in support of Manufacturing or Warehousing / Distribution (preferred), Supply Chain Management, Logistics Operations, Logistics Process or Industrial Engineering and Implementation on operational, tactical and strategic level with a primary focus on distribution applications.
    • Knowledge of mobile hardware device technologies, interface protocols, databases, and client/server applications a plus.
    • Experience in an external customer focused project environment.
    • Ability to manage simultaneous projects and prioritize schedule of self and team.
    • Experience producing and leading implementation and training programs.
    • Capable of communicating features and functionality of software and hardware with non-technical users.
    • Willingness for 25-50% travel on a regular basis.
    • Performance modeling and simulation tools a plus.
    • Experience presenting to external customers.
