This position supports the Underwater Warheads Technology and Development Department at Indian Head Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division (IHEODTD) in Indian Head, MD.
This position supports a Navy department that conducts exploratory, advanced and full scale development of explosive components for mine countermeasures; develops methods of structural and aerodynamic stabilization for air, surface and subsurface ordnance; and provides production assistance for in service engineering of explosive systems and support equipment.
Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to fabricate original engineering models from rough sketches, tabulated data and/or verbal instruction, conceiving, designing and fabricating special handling equipment, assembly equipment, novel tools and fixtures which are needed to facilitate fabrication and assembly.
High degree of mechanical ability in the design, construction and testing of the unique components associated with retardation and recovery systems. Extensive experience in ordnance applications, mechanical operations, of various machines (including a variety of industrial sewing machines), drafting, blueprint reading and mechanical assembly work, as well as fabric structure knowledge is required.
Required to have working knowledge and ability to work with numerous high technology fabrics that can be applied to uses in bullet shields, strapping and webbing for explosive nets and line charges plus routine applications of materials and their capabilities for stress applications. He/she must also be capable of operating with unique materials for assembly of rocket launchers and anti-corrosive coatings for ship application.
Intricate knowledge of engineering principles and techniques in a variety of fields. These include basic design and testing experience in the areas of mechanics, electro-mechanics, hydraulics, and aerodynamics and test instrumentation as well as knowledge of manufacturing procedures and techniques in fine and precision mechanics.
Must have driver's license from state of residence.
