Description

PURPOSE:
Provide on-going supervision of and therapeutic support for consumers enrolled in the Day Treatment Program. Provide 1:1 assistance to students with mild to severe behavioral problems, including students who may be physically and verbally aggressive, enrolled in the Day Treatment program. Participate as a milieu treatment team member.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Assist other program staff in providing a positive, structured, and therapeutic milieu in which the emotional, developmental, and educational needs of the students can be met. Work closely with other team members to maintain an aesthetically pleasing and therapeutic environment.
  • Provide direct observation of students within the milieu. Participate in 1:1 intervention in order to encourage the student’s compliance with program expectations, and to identify and process barriers to successful completion of program expectations. Assist students in dealing with conflict, expressing themselves in appropriate ways, and improving their behavior.
  • Provide immediate, therapeutic crisis interventions as necessary.
  • Work with the team to implement behavioral programs and intervention plans. Provide input into daily and weekly student summaries and level rating forms.
  • Ensure that all paperwork is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • In addition to the above, any other responsibilities appropriate to the position and not specifically listed in the job description.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, counseling, psychology, or other related field. 3-5 years of experience in a related setting considered in lieu of degree. Experience working with adolescents within the structure of an intensive, milieu based program. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience working with Special Education population strongly preferred. Educational or classroom management experience preferred. Current Driver’s License with proper insurance per agency protocol. Current Food Handler’s Permit required within first month of hire. Current Agency Affiliated License. Per the RCW 28A.400.303, employees of contractors with school districts that “have regularly scheduled unsupervised access to children” are required to go through FBI fingerprinting.

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, use hands to finger or handle, reach with hands and arms, talk or listen. Requires the ability to lift up to 100 pounds. The position requires peripheral vision. The position may require working in outdoor weather conditions. A significant degree of flexibility and strength is required in this position due to the infrequent, yet essential, use of one’s limbs and body weight as a temporary means of physical restraint of some clients.

 
Salary $14.00 per hour
