REQUIREMENTS OF WORK Associates degree in engineering science or business administration; seven years of experience in road construction and work, including four years of supervisory or lead worker experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills: Thorough knowledge of the practices and techniques of public works maintenance and construction work. Thorough knowledge of the materials, supplies and equipment used in public works maintenance, repair and construction projects Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with public works maintenance and repair projects. Considerable knowledge of modern supervisory practices. Ability to plan, coordinate, direct and supervise the work of crews and contractors consistent with the Town’s goals of establishing and maintaining quality community services through cost-effective, customer-friendly service delivery. Ability to work from engineering plans and specifications, and to evaluate projects for adherence to specifications and deadlines. Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to use personal computer. Ability to establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with outside agencies, contractors, other departments, subordinates and the public. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possess a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, CDL, with air brake and tanker endorsements. Competent person training in confined space and trenching and excavation or ability to obtain.. Ability to acquire Road Master Certification within three years of hire. Ability to acquire Tree Warden Certification within three years of hire. Ability to acquire one of the following within three years of hire ;Custom Grounds 3A Pesticide License or R.O.W. Pesticide License or ASE Certification.
