Email Opening Title SR - Summer Research Assistant  Location Princeton, NJ   Department Systems Research  Description The Systems Research group (http://www.nec-labs.com/research-departments/systems-research/) at NEC Labs America aims to build novel service platforms that simplify complex computer systems management and to develop new information technology that supports innovative applications, from big data analytics to the Internet of Things. Our research is both experimental and theoretical, covering many domains, such as cloud computing, data centers, software-defined networking, operating systems, stream processing, and Big Data processing architectures. It has led to both award-winning NEC solutions and numerous publications in top conferences. Our group is looking for multiple summer interns in the areas of Networking, IoT, Cloud Computing, Machine Learning, Data Mining and Big Data. Preference will be given to the candidates with the past experiences in the design, implementation, and deployment of large scale distributed systems, big data platforms and applications, or data mining/machine learning fields. The internship typically produces high quality publication, patents, and the implementation of a research system prototype.   Position Requirements Candidates must be enrolled in a PhD or MS program in Computer Science/Computer Engineering in one of the following areas: - Networking - Data mining/machine learning - Data center and cloud computing - Big data processing platforms - System Analytics (Anomaly detection, system measurement, monitoring and forecasting) - Deep Learning Preference will be given to the following qualifications: - Prior research experience on above areas - Strong publication record - Strong hands-on experience in system analysis and implementation (Linux/Windows) - Strong communication and programming skills - Open-source software experience ( Hadoop, SPARK, ElasticSearch, Logstash, Tensorflow, Pytorch, etc) NEC Laboratories America is located in Princeton, NJ, home of the Princeton University and one of New Jersey's most beautiful and idyllic towns.
