Position Staff Attorney, AAC

Description

Working with a team of three other attorneys, the Staff Attorney provides civil legal services to indigent clients who are either HIV+ or at high risk for HIV infection, in areas including housing, public benefits, SSI/SSDI, consumer protection, access to health care, unemployment, estate planning, family law and discrimination.

Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Perform client intakes and assessments to determine clients' legal needs.
  2. Provide representation in legal matters and referrals for clients to other legal services.
  3. Provide group level educational workshops.
  4. Represent and counsel clients.
  5. Provide administrative support including: answering the Legal Line, drafting, filing, and collaborative project tasks.
  6. Participate in public relations and development activities as needed.
  7. Other duties as required.

Position Requirements
  • Juris Doctorate, or other law degree from a U.S. law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Massachusetts.
  • 0 – 3 years legal practice experience.
  • Excellent written (legal writing and other) and oral communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and able to work independently.
  • Working knowledge HIV/AIDS community trends, harm reduction, and at-risk populations.
