Description

Summary
Function as a member of the Adult Outpatient unit while demonstrating the clinical and organizational skill and experience to plan, develop, coordinate, and provide scheduling for program clients; providing direct services to clients served by the AOP teams; to provide crisis intervention services in various agency settings, including the lobby; to liaise with the AOP Supervisor's Team in order to provide the most efficient and effective services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assume primary responsibility for the delivery of services in the Almira office lobby, including scheduling clients for their next appointment and assisting clients in the main lobby.
  • When not scheduling appointments, being available for various tasks as designated by the Adult Outpatient Director or his or her designee. Tasks to include a variety of case-management activities including smoothing access to community resources (financial, housing, medical care, transportation, legal, substance use treatment, crisis services, leisure activities). Also, serve as a stand-in for absent clinicians when their clients have needs that can't wait for the clinician's return. This may include the routine evaluation of risk factors for self and others relative to physical environment and the potential for aggressive behavior.
  • Provide crisis intervention services in a variety of settings, including the lobby. Essentially be 'on call' to respond to requests for clinical interventions throughout the campus and, when appropriate, in community settings. Utilize de-escalation and problem-solving skills to stabilize the individual in crisis. Consult with Care Team members, DMHPs and law enforcement when necessary.
  • Educate and support clients' families and community members as appropriate. Any disclosures must adhere to HIPAA privacy and security standards and be logged in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Maintain working knowledge of substance use disorders and appropriate interventions.
  • Familiarity with the challenges associated with homelessness, including those specific to the Kitsap homeless community is a must.
  • Collaborate with staff and clients on awareness of clients' rights, including grievance and complaint procedures. Assist clients with filing, mediating, and resolving complaints.
  • Escort clients to other locations on campus, or provide them with directions.
  • May sit with someone who is not doing well and needs extra support while waiting for his or her appointment.
  • Interface with cab drivers, ParaTransit, and other transportation entities to locate clients. May also make transportation arrangements for clients.
  • Assist in locating staff members who are needed in the main lobby.
  • Document client activities to maintain a permanent record according to established policies and procedures.
  • Work in a cooperative and collaborative manner, building positive relationships with staff of all agency departments.
  • Pursue professional growth by seeking out learning opportunities and integrating new learning into daily work practices.

Position Requirements

Knowledge and Skills
Good fund of knowledge on mental health diagnoses, community mental health populations, service delivery, and, in particular, the provision of group treatment services. Skilled in crisis resolution, including problem solving, de-escalation, and adaptive coping skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Basic keyboarding and computer skills are a must.

Abilities
Flexibility and the ability to adapt to constantly changing demands on a day-by-day and week-by-week basis. Ability to maintain calm in the face of adversity and to move fluidly from one situation to another, adapting while dealing with each on its own merits.

Physical Abilities
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with arms, talk, and listen. Requires the engagement in work of a moderately active nature. Must have near visual acuity to read and write printed materials. Requires the ability to move about in an office environment and other areas of the campus and community. Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and move supplies of light weight (under 30 pounds) on an intermittent basis. Work requires driving an automobile.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree required. Psychology, social services, or a related field preferred; minimum of one-year experience working with clients with mental illness required. Prefer experience in co-occurring disorders treatment, individual and group therapy, vocational services, or substance abuse treatment. Possess and maintain valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report and reliable, insured transportation.

Licenses and Certificates
Must be eligible for an Agency Affiliated Counselor credential from the State of Washington.
