GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Digital Content & Social Media Strategist's overall responsibility is ensuring brand consistency and content cohesiveness for all United Church of Christ digital platforms, including but not limited to ucc.org, UCC social media, and the United Church of Christ blog. Curates the digital content catalogue to inspire audience engagement and, in partnership with the Manager, Web Strategies, leverages digital content to motivate philanthropy via digital and social media platforms. This position is perfect for an expert content creator with an exceptional understanding of content management, digital marketing, and editorial writing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop strategic vision for social media platforms that includes tactical deployment of an activated content strategy that enhances brand, marketing, and philanthropy.

  • Coordinate and activate a denominational social media network to support, inform and populate the UCC's social media platforms, assisting the Marketing & Philanthropy staff by expanding our social media capacity.

  • Edit and manage content and writers for the United Church of Christ blog, NewSacred.org.

  • Create and maintain current educational resources about web writing and social media for the United Church of Christ.

  • Serve as the national office liaison for assistance with web writing and social media training.

  • Build and manage a content calendar for all major UCC communications entities that focuses on diversity in content type and demographic reach.

  • Coordinate marketing and media materials and campaigns using combined resources from various ministry teams and the Office of Marketing & Philanthropy.

  • Develop and maintain communications partnerships with religious and social justice thought leaders.

  • Collaborate with the Manager, Web Strategies to capitalize on UCC 'viral content' and provide supplemental resources and/or follow-up content to sustain audience engagement.

  • Work with Marketing & Philanthropy staff to produce graphics, editorial pieces, and videos for UCC digital media.

  • Maintain social media and/or marketing toolkits for local church and conference use.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

  • BA/BS degree in English, Journalism, marketing or a related field is required. Masters education a plus.
  • 2-3 years experience in content marketing, social media, or journalism work.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills with an ability to write for various web platforms.
  • Must be self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to management.
  • Active and well-rounded personal presence on social media, with a command of each network and their best practices.
  • Excellent communicator and creative thinker, with an ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions.
  • Expert knowledge of all major social media networks and quick comprehension of new platforms.
  • Proficiency with blogging websites, such as WordPress, Medium and Blogger.
  • Basic understanding of video production and editing.
  • A creative mind who balances good judgment and thinking outside of the box.
  • Commitment to and theological understanding of mission in its broad range of concerns; ability to articulate and witness to one’s faith perspective
  • Understanding of the United Church of Christ, its beliefs, theology, and involvement in social justice issues.
  • Desire and sensitivity to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with commitment to pluralism in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently
  • Ability to travel within the United States as necessary
