Fully Licensed Psychologist - Pella, Iowa

The Clinical Professional in this role is responsible to be a professional Psychologist who provides assessment, counseling, psychological testing, treatment, education and gives referrals and advocacy services for patients. The Psychologist is also responsible for upholding the highest quality care, keeping with all Pine Rest standards and bylaws as well as those set by government and regulatory agencies. Please note: this full time role will have a varying shift schedule, working some combination of days and evenings for 32-40 hours each week.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the interviewing of patients and assessing care needs via bio-psychosocial domains and psychometric testing as well as reviewing records obtained from other patient care staff and or referral sources.
  • Selects and completes appropriate therapeutic interventions based upon clinical knowledge base and educational background (to include individual, group, family, and experiential based models).
  • Collaborates with other treatment team members regarding patients' progress through interdisciplinary team meetings, record review, and informal discussions.
  • Ensures that all medical record documentation protocols are complied with. Ensures that patients' psychological testing reports, progress notes are entered into the medical records on a timely basis and in accordance with established organizational and departmental procedures.
  • May coordinate services and community resources as needed and assist clients in obtaining them.
  • Participates regularly in departmental and staff meetings. Serves on programs or organizational committees as required.
  • Maintains all applicable Michigan or Iowa licensure requirements. Builds knowledge of current trends and developments in therapy and counseling through the use of appropriate professional literature, behavioral healthcare workshops and publications. Fulfills continuing education requirements as per PRCMHS departmental policies and licensure requirements.
  • Provides training/supervision to interns as assigned.
  • Participates in education and training programs for patients, families, or community groups.
  • Provides external consultation to professionals, hospitals, organizations, or agencies.
  • Membership and involvement in local, state, and national professional organizations is encouraged.

Required/Desired Qualifications:

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Current doctorate level psychologist state licensure in Iowa (or ability to quickly obtain licensure in Iowa).
  • Eligible to meet Pine Rest Medical Staff credentialing requirements.
  • Obtain and maintain in good standing any required certifications commensurate with populations treated (for example: substance use disorders)
  • Training and experience with patient age groups being served as well as age specific education and demonstrated competence.
  • One to two years of postdoctoral clinical experience is preferred.

Specific skills, knowledge, and abilities:

  • Interpersonal relationship skills necessary in order to relate to a wide variety of internal and external contacts including patients and families, multi-disciplinary treatment team members, other organization employees, and a variety of individuals in the social sphere of the patient receiving services.
  • Verbal and written communication skills which enable the therapist to convey clear, thorough, necessary and timely information to individuals, family, colleagues, referral sources, supervisory and management personnel.
  • Analytical skills necessary in order to synthesize a variety of clinical data to determine appropriate diagnosis, treatment plan and effectiveness of treatment approach.

About the Organization Pine Rest is a nonprofit, free standing, behavioral health system founded in 1910 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This comprehensive behavioral health center, coupled with the Pine Rest network of 19 outpatient clinics and satellite offices in Michigan and Iowa, provide individualized and group therapy for people of all ages and all levels of need. Pine Rest clinicians offer therapeutic services in behavioral health for people of all ages and all levels of need across the continuum of care within a Christian framework.

Pine Rest has a 200-bed inpatient hospital program with a 36-bed child and adolescent inpatient and a large partial hospital program for adolescents. Additionally, Pine Rest has many inpatient services for adults, including: a 28-bed psychiatric-medical unit in an acute care hospital, four 22-bed adult inpatient units each designed for a different level of acuity, a 22-bed co-occurring substance use disorder adult inpatient unit, a large adult partial hospital program, and a 26-bed older adult inpatient unit.

The Pine Rest Community and Residential Services Division also provides a wide array of services. With over 220 residential beds across a variety of programs, including treatment for substance use disorders, homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disorders, adults with mental illness, and a program for youth aged 11-18 with extensive trauma histories focusing on trauma treatment and life skills programming.

Other campus based services include a forensic psychiatry clinic, a psychological consultation testing center, an attention deficit disorders clinic, an autism spectrum disorders clinic, and a large neuromodulation clinic which provides TMS and ECT services.

The medical staff includes over 70 psychiatrists and other MDs/DOs, more than 120 fully licensed psychologists, more than 250 licensed masters-level social workers, and 30 PAs/NPs.
