WORK OBJECTIVE

Under the direction of the Information Technology Director, responsible for managing technologies including both physical and virtual hosts/servers and data storage devices, focusing on the overall operation, performance, and reliability of the City's internal systems environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Leads the system configuration, operation, and performance monitoring of physical hosts, virtual servers, SANs, etc., undertaking tuning activities when necessary to ensure performance meets City requirements.
  • Leads the analysis, coordination, implementation, and modification of system security measures, software updates, and disaster recovery in order to protect the City's hardware, software, and data.
  • Leads the configuration, analysis, modification, and support for MS Exchange environment.
  • Collaborates with the IT team for design, installation, analysis, modification, and support for VMware vSphere environment.
  • Consults with users to determine/change functional specifications of said environments when necessary.
  • Assists with providing advanced level of technical support and problem-solving assistance, consulting with all users within the City, as well as internally with other IT staff, performing in-depth research, analysis, and problem diagnosis, and consulting with external technical staff/vendors as necessary related to hardware, software, and system functionality specifications and issues.
  • Assists in analyzing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and modification of Cisco IP telephone system programming.
  • Assists with creating and maintaining documentation relating to the system environment's assets, configuration, mapping, processes/procedures, and service records.
  • May also be involved in other IT responsibilities including website modifications and updates; configuring and setting-up PC workstations, user/email accounts, and access permissions to City applications and data; procurement of software, hardware, and other IT-related resources; and training of end-users.
  • Recommends technology changes/brand standards by staying current in the industry.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or appropriate discipline and/or 4 years of progressive experience in a Systems Administrator position.
  • Strong knowledge of IT systems technologies, processes, methodologies, and best practices, which include servers, storage, virtualization, networking, and telephony.
  • Strong, hands-on experience and knowledge in designing, architecture, planning and maintaining complex server environments.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with Windows Servers, PC's, DNS, Active Directory, WSUS, DFS.
  • Strong, hands-on experience supporting VMware as well as various SAN technologies/providers.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with Microsoft Exchange.
  • Knowledge and experience configuring and supporting MS SQL.
  • Knowledge and experience configuring and supporting Linux-based servers.
  • MCITP/MCSA preferred.
  • ITIL v3 Foundation preferred.
  • Ability to perform Help desk support and troubleshooting for server-related, software, and hardware issues.
  • Familiarity and experience configuring Cisco Routers, Switches, WAPs, VLANs, VPNs, and Firewalls.
  • Familiarity with I-Series operating systems and applications.
  • Possession of a valid state of Florida Driver's License.
  • Availability for occasional off-hours or weekend tasks and on-call rotation.
  • Excellent problem solving/analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate using patience and tact.
  • Demonstration of willingness to learn, teach, and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate technical information to City employees of all levels of technical sophistication.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing; ability to follow complex written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to document complex processes and scenarios clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work with multiple vendors, suppliers, or contractors when necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of officer related equipment, such as, but not limited to telephone, computer, calculator, copier and fax machine.
  • Required to be sufficiently mobile to respond to calls at all supported locations and lift/move heavy computer equipment and peripherals unassisted when necessary (up to 75 lbs.)
  • Required to have sufficient mobility to perform duties in small spaces involving standing, sitting, crouching, stooping, kneeling and physical ability to perform tasks requiring physical strength and finer dexterity.
  • Office atmosphere.

The employee in this position must be able to secure and maintain a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Clearance to include approval for controlled access to protected information.

Exceptions to the minimum qualifications must be reviewed by the Human Resources Director and approved by the City Manager prior to job offer
