Description

PURPOSE:
Provide on-going supervision, behavioral and therapeutic support for children enrolled in the Evergreen Program at Mountain View Middle School. To provide assistance in the implementation of the milieu program, including providing emotional support and remedial, individual, and group support to children. To participate as a milieu treatment team member.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Assist program staff in providing a positive, structured, and therapeutic milieu in which the emotional, development, and educational needs of the children can be met. Work closely with team members to maintain an aesthetically pleasing and therapeutic environment.
  • Provide direct observation of children within the milieu. Participate in 1:1 interventions as necessary in order to encourage the children’s compliance with program expectations. Use functional behavioral analysis to identify issues which impede the child’s successful social and emotional behavior and to help create a treatment plan that addresses these issues.
  • Provide immediate, therapeutic crisis interventions as necessary.
  • Work with the team to implement behavioral programs and intervention plans. Provide input into daily level rating forms.
  • Provide 1:1 interventions for students in their home school environment as necessary. Collaborate with the student’s home school staff to develop behavioral programs and intervention plans. Assist team in assessing the student’s readiness to be in their home school environment.
  • Participate in all appropriate meetings, case consultations, program staff and family meetings, and admission/discharge planning meetings as necessary.
  • Ensure that all paperwork is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of positive, collaborative relationships with KMHS programs, school district personnel, and other public or private agencies, in order to provide an essential level of care for children, and to further and enhance the overall mission and goals of the agency.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor degree preferred. Associate degree in social sciences, counseling, psychology, or other related field with equivalent, relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of degree. High School diploma with equivalent, relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of degree. Experience working with children within the structure of an intensive, milieu based program. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Awareness of or working knowledge of Cognitive/Behavioral therapy, Rational/Emotive therapy, behavioral modification, and development theory strongly preferred. Experience working with Special Education population strongly preferred. Educational or classroom management experience preferred. Possess and maintain valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report.

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, use hands to finger or handle, reach with hands and arms, talk or listen. Requires the ability to lift up to 100 pounds. The position requires peripheral vision. The position may require working in outdoor weather conditions. A significant degree of flexibility and strength is required in this position due to the infrequent, yet essential, use of one’s limbs and body weight as a temporary means of physical restraint of some clients.
