The Visitor Services Associate is a member of the Public Access team responsible for delivering a quality experience and outstanding customer service to the more than 100,000 visitors of every age and background to Taliesin West each year. Greet guests, check in reservations, handle cash using the POS system, help to encourage guests to become members, ensure tours depart timely, and follow proper cash-handling procedures. Acquires and maintains general knowledge of Frank Lloyd Wright's life and work to function as an informed and intelligent representative for the Foundation.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures equipment and stickers are ready for check-in at the beginning of each day and throughout each shift.
  • Facilitates reservation check-in by greeting each guest and ensuring they are aware of the timing of tours. Provides an opportunity to the guest to become a member as well as captures important demographic data for further communication to the customer.
  • Sells walk-in tour tickets via the Point of Sale with ACME Ticketing.
  • Facilitates communication with the tour office manager on duty to control traffic flow.
  • Properly closes the ticketing and POS systems and balances receipts at shift end ensuring that receipts and equipment are properly stowed and equipment will be fully functional (charged) for the next shift.
  • Provides superior level of customer service including greeting and handling inquiries from the customer.
  • Follows departmental and organizational policies and procedures, and communicates emergency situations immediately to Retail Manager or Public Access Manager as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Any combination of education, training, or experience relevant to the performance of the position.
  • Ability to report to work on time and communicate with supervisor in a timely manner about scheduling needs.
  • Ability to work weekends including after Thanksgiving; the week between Christmas and New Years; and peak tour season of Feb. 15-April 15.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent oral communication and presentation skills and effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to demonstrate active listening: giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Musst possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least six months’ related experience, including proficiency utilizing an electronic ticketing reservation or point of sale system and cash handling.
  • Experience as a tour guide, membership sales or retail associate.
  • Knowledge of Frank Lloyd Wright and his architectural principles is a plus

  • Work environment: Work is performed indoors and outdoors at a historic site with uneven surfaces and desert terrain. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
