Each year, the agency's continuum of care and its 300+ professional staff help thousands of youth and their families achieve resiliency, dignity, and self-sufficiency. We operate therapeutic group homes, a treatment foster care program, and family help center located in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County and Prince George County. We also service students in our nonpublic special education programs in Baltimore City and Prince George's County. The Children's Guild also operates public charter schools located in Anne Arundel and Baltimore City and will open our first DC charter school in September, 2015. Location The Children's Guild- DC Public Charter School  

The Children's Guild Public Charter School will open its doors in August of 2015 in Washington DC. Our school focuses on the unique needs of children ages K-8. We offer a personalized learning environment that blends the Children's Guild Tranzed philosophy of developing caring, committed and contributing young people for our community. The culture of our school is reinforced throughout our school goals, curriculum, environment and systems. At the heart is our student centered approach to teaching and learning where our principles are guided by the way we Think, Act, Care and Reflect. General Job Description: To assist the Special Education Teacher in the implementation of goals and objectives in individualized programs for children (6) six to (21) Twenty-one years old .

Academic Preparation and/or Experience:

Candidates must possess either a high school diploma, an associate or bachelor degree.. Passing ParaPro test scores are a plus.


This position is directly supervised by the Special Education Teacher and is evaluated by the Special Education Teacher in collaboration with the Executive Director of Educational Services. The Assistant Teacher is a core member of the classroom team and accountable to the team for performance, planning and intervention strategies.


I. Instruction

This task is successfully completed when:

a. Assist the Special Education teacher in implementing the daily lesson plans.

b. Assist in maintaining classroom milieu to ensure that students are available for learning.

II. Teamwork

This task is successfully completed when:

a. Teamwork is demonstrated through regular communication, accountability to one another, clearly defined roles and responsibilities.

b. Model appropriate professional behavior at all times.

c. The team embraces the holistic delivery of services .

d. Effective communication is achieved through active listening and reflection.

e. Team members are responsible to hold one another accountable by making the covert overt in an effort to develop an educational environment that fosters learning growth and development.

III. Professional development:

The task is successfully completed when:

a. Teacher Assistants participate in and graduate from The Children's Guild's Pre-Service Training Program.

b. Teacher Assistants participate in The Children's Guild's College of Transformation Education and complete a minimum of 12 Guild Education Units (GEU's) per full year of employment[A1] .

c. Teacher Assistants participate in weekly Team Meetings, campus in-service trainings and agency in-service trainings.

Expectations for position:

I. Demonstrated understanding of the philosophy and mission of The Children's Guild

II. Minimum Expectations

a. Participate in weekly team and staff meetings

b. Assist with participation in re-enforcement activities such as specials, clubs, etc.

c. Participation on committees as needed

d. Attend parent conferences

e. Attend Guild related functions

f. Professional development to achieve teaching certification requirements.

III. Mandatory reading on relevant topics as assigned

Workplace Conditions:

  1. a. Successful completion of the Pre-service Training Program
    1. Successful completion and demonstrated competency with the prescribed behavior management program.
    2. Assists team members in crisis intervention
    3. Shared office space, e.g., team office
    4. Evening meetings as requested
    5. All other duties as requested


a. Participates in workshops, conferences, academic courses and other professional development activities related to the position.

b. Participate in the Team Primacy Model.

c. Participation in agency activities outside of the normal workday.
