Curation Facility Technician (Part - time)

Description

Redhorse Corporation has an immediate need for a Curation Facility Technician located on Edwards AFB, CA. The Curation Facility Technician will work on-site at the customer's facility to identify missing or damaged artifact bags, create artifact bag tags, and assist with re-bagging artifacts. The Curation Facility Technician will assist with projecting packing material needs based on the volume and type of artifacts to be repatriated to their respective collections.

Duties and responsibilities for the Curation Facility Technician include:

  • Assisting in entering large amount of data into the Oracle Curation Database
  • Supporting curation back-log with up to date information and assist in rectifying State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) concurrence
  • Managing the organization of 300 cubic feet of curated artifacts and 450 linear feet of associated records
  • Processing any newly acquired collections for curation, stabilize existing collections, and maintain an up-to-date inventory of all the collections
  • Assisting with organizing, maintaining or updating at least 7 themed artifact displays
  • Assisting with the Annual Curation Report by providing descriptions and results of all curation activities during work duration
  • Assisting in supplying preventative maintenance for the climate and humidity control
  • Conducting inventory Ceramics bags, bone boxes, and other containers with corresponding catalogs, noting missing catalogs, missing artifacts, and other errors in the data
  • Tracking new artifacts boxes, compare to existing empty spaces in racks, and help identify appropriate locations for incorporation into the existing collections

 
Position Requirements

Minimum Basic Requirement for Skills, Experience, Education and Credentials:

  • Current students and recent graduates from archaeology programs at accredited colleges or universities are invited to apply; Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology preferred
  • Must have an interest in Mojave Desert archaeology
  • At least 1 year of experience working with a curation facility, museum, or similar position involving inventorying, cataloguing, organization, and data entry
  • Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-starter, quick learner and ability to follow directions
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office computer software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Must have ability to commute to Edwards AFB
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Must pass basic background check to gain access to a military installation
  • Candidates for this position must be able to work in changing physical conditions:
    • In extreme climatic conditions and rapidly changing temperatures;
    • Must be able walk over long distances and across of variety of terrains, including uneven surfaces;
    • Must be able to climb, jump, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl;
    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. across a distance of as much as 30 yards;
    • Must be able to work with minimal supervision;
    • Must be able to use GPS technology, read maps, and be skilled in North American compliance Archaeological techniques and practices.

Additional Preferred Requirement for Skills, Experience, Education and Credentials:

  • Academic coursework in Mojave Desert archaeology or other archaeological experience
  • Experience with large amounts of data entry
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a standard California Driver’s License, be able to work in extreme climatic conditions, be able to walk long distances, work with minimal supervision, use GPS technology, read maps, and be skilled in North American compliance Archaeological techniques and practices
  • Upon hiring the applicant must be able to pass a federal background check required prior to gaining access to unclassified government computer work stations
