SUMMARY:

The IBM Power Systems Analyst I primary function is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all iSeries hardware, custom-developed and third-party software and associated operating systems. The position requires that this individual possess strong project management and communication skills, both written and verbal. This position also requires an in-depth knowledge of the IBM iSeries operating system.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform daily system health checks and resolves any outstanding errors
  • Interact with customer/users to clarify project specifications.
  • Provide day-to-day support and technical assistance to customers and end-users.
    Managing customer expectations.
  • Ensure that all hard and soft systems are up to date, patched, and on the most current/stable version
  • Product testing and analyzing results for quality assurance.
  • Participate in disaster planning and testing, evaluating and recommending new technology
  • Manage communications and connection solutions, including local area networks, company applications associated with iSeries system.
  • Manage and ensure the integrity of host computers, databases, backups, disaster recovery and data transfer.
  • Deploy and host security standards as per corporate guidelines.
  • Install and configure interfaces and printer system queues.
  • Report on system health utilizing IBM and third party toolsets.
  • Perform system maintenance, apply PTFs' CUM and OS upgrades.
  • Analyze system or application usage and plan for growth or increases in system capacity.
  • Assess need for any system reconfigurations (minor or significant) and execute them if required.
  • Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.
  • Manage, maintain, and optimize software and hardware license and maintenance contracts with vendors
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure products and services
  • Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Perform network and system security audits and system backups.
  • Participate and support the ABC IT security policies and procedures.
  • Assist in any way possible to ensure that the i870 to I3 platform continues to be successful and will accepted.
  • Monitor and test server software performance and provide statistics and reports.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements, upgrades, and/or purchases.
 
Position Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • A.S. in Computer Science, Business, or related field of study or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 Years’ experience IBM I/iSeries/AS400 Operating System preferred.
  • IBM i5 Administrative level experience.
  • V7R1, V7R2, V7R3 hardware planning, some development skills with RPG and software testing and implementation,
  • IBM iSeries certifications in IBM i5/iSeries/AS400 operating systems and toolsets.
  • Proficiency in IBM iSeries OS commands and command line syntax
  • Working technical knowledge of network, TCP/IP, and platform operating systems
  • Extensive application support experience on IBM midrange
  • Working technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards
  • Strong knowledge of local area network administration.
  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with data management.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into software issues and products as required.
  • Ability to present ideas and solutions in user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
