The Off-line Programming/Welding Applications Engineer (OLP/WAE) position reports to the Pre-Sale System Solutions Supervisor. The position is responsible for conducting pre-sale or advanced engineering activities including welding robot programming both off-line and on-line as required, cycle time generation, weld procedure development, advanced technical support, product presentations, and be the primary trainer for DTPS OLP softwarre. The position is both a front and back end position requiring the individual to be an integral part of all aspects of the automation solution (from concept to production). The ideal individual is one who has worked in the metal fabrication industry, preferably for a large OEM or diverse fabrication company, who understands tooling, robotic systems and is very familiar with part processing, welding and programming. The candidate will enter a fast paced, fast growing group with high expectations and a very diversified day to day activity schedule.


•Participate in a team of engineering professionals who are developing robotic thermal processing solutions to customer manufacturing challenges considering part processing, tooling/fixturing, product flow, throughput and quality requirements.

•Develop and demonstrate off-line programming simulations for customer applications using DTPS Off-line Programming and Simulation Software in coordination with SolidWorks CAD software.

•Develop and demonstrate on-line robotic welding application programs for customer applications using Miller and Panasonic welding technology.

•Develop a deep understanding of advanced technical options and become a resource to the sales team as needed.

•Support sales presentations/demonstrations, conduct training courses & webinars on-line or in person as needed.

•Candidate must be willing to travel, when needed, at times on short notice to support customer installations.

•Utilize the ITW Toolbox (80/20, PLS, MRD, USa) to drive innovation and efficient solutions.

•Collaborate across the Engineering and Integration MWAi partner teams.

Position Requirements


•A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology and/or at least 5 years working in a production environment as Manufacturing Engineer, Welding Engineer or similar role working for an automation integration company.

•Robotic tooling/fixturing design and production implementation experience, heavy weldment knowledge preferred

•Welding processes, part processing, throughput analysis, cycle time calculation, ROI justifications

•Experience programming industrial robots for thermal process (welding/cutting) applications, Panasonic robots preferred.

•3D CAD experience, excellent computer skills with preference towards SolidWorks

•Proficiency with an off-line programming software pacakge (ROBCAD, DELMIA, Moto-Sim, Kuka-Sim, ABB Robot Studio, Fanuc WeldPro, etc)

•Must be a self starter, very thorough, detail and completion oriented with the ablity to manage several projects simultaneously

•Up to 20%, primarily planned travel may be required. The ability to travel on short notice may be required occassionally.
