Position Ophthalmic Technician/Assistant

We have six locations spanning the eastern Twin Cities of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Position Summary

Associated Eye Care is currently seeking an Ophthalmic Technician. The patient-centric candidate assists in the care and treatment of a variety of patients by preparing the patient to see the doctor: performing preliminary tests, acquiring a patient’s ocular and medical history as well as perform advanced diagnostic testing and treatments. Candidates must have the ability to travel to the practice’s six locations located in the East Metro and Western Wisconsin. Full and part-time positions are available.

Essential Functions

  • Efficiently and accurately completes preliminary testing including: visual acuity, lensometry, refraction, eye pressure, OCT imaging, visual field testing and other tests as requested
  • Efficiently and accurate completes documentation of preliminary testing and ocular and medical history within NextGen EHR
  • Efficiently and accurately performs advanced diagnostic tests and treatment may include but not limited to: Topography, A-scan, B-scan, refractive surgery testing, contact lens exams, refractive surgery assisting and pediatric exams
  • Educates patients of the tests and treatments they are performing in a way patients understands
  • Assists provider in meeting governmental and coding requirements
  • Responds appropriately and promptly patient questions within scope of role
  • Work as a team and support colleagues and providers by providing exceptional patient care
  • Triage phone calls

Other Essential Functions

  • Must be willing and able to work a variety of hours and work in the various locations as needed. The locations include: Hudson, Hugo, New Richmond, Stillwater, Woodbury and any partner facility.
  • Must present self at the workstation, ready for work, at the scheduled time
  • Participates in department and company meetings, as requested
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Education & Licensing

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent, required
  • COA, COT, or COMT preferred


  • Graduation from 2 year ophthalmic technician training program preferred
  • 1-2 years experience in ophthalmology practice working as refracting technician preferred

Job Specific Skills & Knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the eye, ocular disease and surgeries
  • Demonstrates an understanding of an advanced skillset
  • Assist in the maintenance and calibration of diagnostic equipment
  • Assist in the training of new or advancing clinical staff as requested

This position will be filled as an Ophthalmic Technician, Ophthalmic Assistant, or Clinical Assistant, dependent upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.
