About the Organization KMHS is Kitsap's nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults.

Inpatient, residential, and outpatient treatment services offer evidence-based treatment, using trauma informed care to help people reach their recovery goals. We offer whole person care through mental health and substance use treatment and care management, close care coordination with on-campus and community-based primary care providers, and with partner PCHS, now offer dental care to KMHS clients and the community. Many community partners assure people receive behavioral health care in the right place, in the right way, at the right time. Together we are weaving a web that connects emergency room and hospitals, substance abuse treatment, and primary care providers; creates partnerships for early intervention at home and school, supports multiple law enforcement, jail, and justice endeavors, and works to ensure housing, food, and other social supports together with social service agencies and community collaborations.

Provide brief, direct and targeted behavioral health interventions to patients in community PCP and specialty clinics. To provide behavioral health consultations to community medical providers.


  • Provide on site behavioral health (mental health and substance use disorder) assessment, crisis, brief, and chronic disease management interventions to non-KMHS clients in primary and specialty care in a manner consistent with medical clinic processes and procedures.
  • Provide behavioral health consultations on site at community clinics to medical providers and staff. Introduce and utilize behavioral health screening and assessment tools appropriate for community settings.
  • Work closely with the KMHS Psychiatric Consultant to facilitate psychiatric, diagnostic, and medication consultations to community medical providers as needed.
  • Work closely with the KMHS Access Team to facilitate referrals to KMHS as appropriate, for individuals who may meet KMHS criteria.
  • Facilitate communication with KMHS Care Teams regarding KMHS clients in community medical settings as appropriate so as to facilitate comprehensive care coordination.
  • Document in the medical EMR and provide behavioral health related feedback to community providers so as to increase their awareness of the impact of behavioral health related factors on overall health and methods for treatment integration.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of community resources and referrals.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant confidentiality and HIPPA requirements.
  • Stay abreast of best integrated behavioral care practices and recommend behavioral health practice improvements as appropriate.

Position Requirements

Master’s Level Mental Health Professional with knowledge of substance use disorders and mental health/substance use/physical health co-morbidities. Ability to provide behavioral health screenings, brief assessments, crisis and brief interventions in primary care settings. Ability to communicate effectively with and document appropriately within both medical and behavioral service provider practices. Knowledge of community resources for behavioral health and other social service needs. Possess and maintain valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report and reliable, insured transportation.
