Position Objective:

PETA's social-media team is constantly growing! We're looking for someone for our entry-level social-media position to help us maintain our presence across a variety of platforms. You'll help animals by keeping their stories front and center on sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Every month, posts from PETA's Facebook pages are viewed an average of 463 million times and PETA's tweets are viewed more than 37 million times, but with your help, we hope to gain even more attention for animal rights.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Assist the social-media team with the implementation and maintenance of PETA's social-media presence
• Maintain usage rights for photos shared on social media (archive photos, track down permissions from third parties, etc.)
• Assist with the monitoring of PETA- and animal rights–related tweets by celebrities and news outlets
• Assist with the tracking and analysis of PETA's social-media efforts
• Assist the social-media team with fact-checking
• Maintain a calendar of holidays for the social-media team's consideration
• Share local animal rights–related event postings on Facebook
• Assist with responding to the public on topics like vegan eating and cruelty to animals
• Participate in the social-media team's brainstorming meetings
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
 

Position Requirements

• College degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum of one year of experience in an office environment
• Proven interest in and strong working knowledge of social media
• Excellent working knowledge of the Internet
• Extensive knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns
• Proven ability to conduct and analyze marketing research
• Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office software
• Proven effective written and verbal communication skills
• Proven ability to handle multiple tasks, work well under pressure, and meet tight deadlines
• Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues
• Commitment to the objectives of the organization
