Description

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION: Assist the Director of Marketing & Philanthropy and other staff and volunteers in carrying out philanthropic programs of the national setting of the United Church of Christ by providing leadership in identifying grant prospects, cultivating and securing grant support to assist the programs of the national ministries; ensuring compliance with grant funds received and appropriate grant reporting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in developing and implementing annual and long-range fund development plans for the UCC, ensuring that the mission is reflected throughout all efforts and specifically through grant funded programs.
  • Work with development team to identify and set annual grant fundraising goals consistent with organization budget.
  • Prepare, submit and manage all grant applications and renewals.
  • Conduct extensive research for new funding opportunities with a variety of dollar values, from small to large.
  • Work with program staff to gather and track program outcomes and data as outlined in grant proposals.
  • Prepare and submit regular grant reports as required by funders, insuring compliance requirements are met.
  • Prepare and manage tracking system to effectively identify, track and report annual grant opportunities and submissions.
  • Take the initiative in collaborate with the staff team and other church leaders to identify priority needs and prepare compelling cases for giving.
  • In cooperation with the staff team coordinate development strategies for the United Church of Christ, engaging grant makers and other funding streams as appropriate.
  • Respond to inquiries for information and resources as requested by Conferences, congregations and individuals.
  • Serve as the primary grant research liaison with the variety of national ministries.
  • Promote the program's positive public image by responding in writing and orally on a timely basis to inquiries for information, accepting speaking engagements, and serving as a resource.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of work teams by fostering a spirit of cooperation and accomplishing assigned tasks.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

  • A college degree in a related field or equivalent experience, or a combination of academic study and experience.
  • Experience in the philosophy and practice of philanthropy in the non-profit sector and demonstrated ability to work in the area of leadership gifts
  • A demonstrated track record in successful grant acquisitions to support non-profit organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience with research, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of private and public grant makers
  • A familiarity with grant application submissions, processing, distribution cycles and reporting standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and relate to a variety of diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to and theological understanding of mission, stewardship and philanthropy.
  • Understanding of the polity and structures of the United Church of Christ.
  • Desire and sensitivity to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with commitment to diversity in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission.
  • Ability to maintain and properly handle confidential or sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently.
  • Demonstrated written and oral English language skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Raiser’s Edge.
  • Limited travel within the United States.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in grants acquisition strategies, grant writing, and grant compliance and stewardship strategies.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in successful proposal writing, resulting in sustained growth in grant income.
