Position Summary:

Philabundance is seeking a full-time Grant Writer to join the Development team! In this role you will research and submit proposals that support our strategic initiatives, steward donors, prepare Letters of Intent/Inquiry, and coordinate interdepartmental inputs. This is a multifaceted role that will challenge you to manage full range of activities that are required to prepare, submit and manage grant proposals to foundations. You will report to the Senior Manager of Institutional Development and collaborate with your fellow Grant Writer to organize and priorities, review grant opportunities and meet submission deadlines. This is a terrific opportunity for anyone whose been handling research and coordination activities and is ready to become a full-time grant writer!

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Grant Writing - manage full range of activities required to prepare, submit and manage grant proposals to foundations
  • Perform research on grant-making foundations and corporate foundations.
  • Work collaboratively with Finance department for report preparation.
  • Provide stewardship to current donors, including work with Senior Manager, Institutional Development to provide regular written updates to foundation donors.
  • Ensure records in database are current as well as keep corresponding information in paper files,
  • Make certain that proposal submissions meet all stated requirements and guidelines.
  • Develop and cultivate contacts among grantors and potential funding sources.
  • Ensure that proposals and grant reports are submitted in a timely fashion, preferably in advance of deadlines.
  • Enter and track proposals and grant-related actions in Raiser’s Edge.
  • Participate and assist with Development events and activities, as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work in a seated position up to 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

  • Ability to work at a computer screen for extended lengths of time.

  • Bend, stoop/squat, and walk intermittently throughout the day.

  • See, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper safety conditions.

  • Perform office tasks using simple hand grasp, fine hand manipulation, and reach associated with assigned tasks such as keying.

Position Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 4 year degree or equivalent work experience

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in proposal writing with a moderate to high percentage of awards.

  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising

  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments.

  • Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

  • High proficiency with Microsoft platforms – Word, Excel, Outlook.

  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge, or other donor database, preferred.


  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, articulate, and persuasive proposals. Technical writing is a plus.
  • Strong editing skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete required work in advance of deadlines
  • Experience with developing proposals for foundation, corporate and institutional donors
  • Ability to work independently as well as on project teams.
