Description

GOAL:

To leverage United Church of Christ web platforms to support the efficient curation of the story that is the UCC, and maximize our capacity to actively engage and sustain an existing, emerging, and growing audience interface; and to utilize a coordinated web presence to effectively inspire generosity and increase philanthropy.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Serves in a layered and multi-faceted role as principal web administrator of the United Church of Christ, providing thought leadership for the strategic and tactical deployment of web platforms and websites (e.g., navigation, mobility, accessibility, SEO), ongoing maintenance and the principal point of contact for all programming; in collaboration with the Digital Content & Social Media Strategist, manages and executes the design and programming of all web platform communications including giving and donation portals, and synchronizing a unified web 'voice' across all National Setting work areas; is the keeper of the UCC digital footprint across domains and is accountable for the performance, experience, content maintenance, workflows, and the latest web technologies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the Director of Marketing & Philanthropy in building a skilled, innovative, agile, data-driven team and a technological infrastructure of equal measure.
  • Provide oversight for all web giving portals, driving the interface across all web platforms to inspire increased philanthropy and a clarified digital UCC catalogue of giving opportunities.
  • Maintain websites (including content updates) to ensure a smooth user experience, capturing and reporting the data necessary to stay in front of our audiences and ahead of the curve, and optimize performance as needed to create a smooth experience for the end user.
  • Balance a solid understanding of the organizational goals and priorities with the technological limitations and opportunities of our software, hardware, content management systems, and web servers
  • Examine and analyze web traffic in coordination with Digital Content & Social Media Strategist, reporting as required.
  • Establish clear lines of communication and collaborative partnership with the National Office programmatic and creative teams with the IT department as well as external partners and providers.
  • Manage the day-to-day collaborative efforts of the website, ensuring all content, images, forms, and web pages look and work properly.
  • Apply the needs and nuances of the teams to the larger vision, strategy, and objectives of the organization.
  • Establish strategic goals of United Church of Christ websites and tactically deploy new technologies, enhance site features and navigation, and improve site accessibility and optimization.
  • Ensure that all pages throughout ucc.org (and other UCC sites) meet brand standards, including design and language. Collaborate with Digital Content & Social Media Strategist on editorial changes when necessary to manage information provided by clients and partners for clarity and function. Translate information provided by clients and partners into appropriate web language and design and refresh websites as appropriate in a timely manner.
  • Serve as the lead technical resource for large events (e.g., NYE, General Synod) and other opportunities when online communications is involved (e.g., live video streaming, live chat/Tweeting).
  • Manage the denomination's content management system (CMS), including the preparation and deployment of templates, user guides, and other resources in order to make a user-friendly site on behalf of all CMS users. Convert and decode video for online distribution.
  • Manage the denomination's CRM system, including data integrity, permissions, and list management for e-mails, newsletters, and customer service needs.
  • Provide direct supervision to Multimedia and Creative Content Specialist, including day-to-day oversight, evaluation, and project management. Serve as primary liaison to web design contractor(s) and other web vendors.
  • Keep current on media technology and apply new techniques and resources to web site, with particular emphasis on video streaming technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Marketing & Philanthropy
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

  • A college degree in computer science, information technology, web design or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated Supervisory Skills
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated record of success managing internal and external web systems for a growing organization.
  • Experience empowering tech-savvy team members who bring a wide range of skills and experience to the table.
  • Possess clear, confident, and constructive communication skills.
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of web construction, software and design principles and standards (HTML, CSS, XML, etc.)
  • A familiarity with web administration and management (Experience with the Convio CMS and NationBuilder a plus)
  • Advanced abilities in managing information and the transfer of data into appropriate web language
  • Desire and sensitivity to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with commitment to pluralism in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission;
  • Competency in web policy development
  • An understanding of the polity and structure of the United Church of Christ
  • Ability and willingness to travel, at times, for an extended number of days, occasionally internationally
