As a Senior Transportation Project Manager you will be responsible for leading the planning, development and completion of transportation improvements within our Iowa Services market. If you are great at building relationships we are looking for you! This role will have client contact, completion of business development activities in designated areas, and scheduling and execution of preliminary and final highway design projects. Essential Functions:

  • Apply broad understanding of civil engineering and other fields to reach innovative and interdependent solutions
  • Develop, coordinate and review the final design and preparation of plans and specifications
  • Responsible for the work of other engineers and technicians; plans and organizes project assignments
  • Responsible for leading and managing the planning, scheduling, budgets, and performance of multiple engineering projects
  • Coordination of internal and external specialized work teams including municipal utilities, water resources, surveying and structural on complex county and state highway projects
  • Provides technical advice regarding design, construction or modification and repairs to clients, contractors and other staff members
  • Read and interpret engineering plans, specifications and reports
  • Perform effective technical writing and correspondence
  • Perform business development activities (client needs, research, proposals, etc.)
  • Coordinate construction administration
  • Travel periodically to work sites and other project related locations

Education and Experience:

  • The selected candidate will have a Bachelors Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Eight (8) or more years of progressive engineering experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of IA
  • Experience preparing highway and intersection designs in Microstation CAD and/or AutoCAD
  • Experience developing and delivering federal aid projects
  • Supervisory and staff mentoring experience
  • Business development experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of industry standards and guidelines including Roadway Functional Classification, IA/DOT Road Design Manual and IA/DOT State Aid Requirements.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including, but not limited to
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Active listening and negotiation skills
  • Ability to understanding others’ perspectives
  • Excellent time management and problem solving skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. Minimal travel is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Transportation Engineering or other related field
  • Proven ability to find and apply new technologies to advance quality and efficiency
  • Experience in construction administration, design of storm water management systems, and/or transit facility design
  • Experience with complex traffic operations, municipal engineering, and public involvement
