**This position could be full-time or part-time. Days and times negotiable.**

General Description:

For the In-Home Safety and Reunification (ISRS) program the Family Builder provides short-term, intensive services to families involved with DHS Child Welfare whose children are at risk of out of home placement or for children who are reuniting with families after out of home placement. Services provided include basic parenting assistance, social/emotional support, and stabilization of home environment assuring child's needs for stability and safety.

For the In-Home Services and Supports (IHSS) program, the Family Builder is providing support, case management, and skill building services to DHS families who are referred by Child Welfare. Services provided in this program are similar to the ISRS program but are for families where there is not an identified safety threat.

Ability to travel in own vehicle to families’ homes and communities required.*

Bilingual, English/Spanish, required.

 
Position Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, or human services is required; at least two years’ experience working in the human services field within the last five years. Will complete a criminal background check and/or fingerprinting. Must be computer proficient in a Microsoft Windows environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and record keeping software preferred. Must have respectful and have an open, unbiased, accepting attitude toward clients and their families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-home change and safety services to children, adolescents, and families
  • Assess for parental capacities as related to child safety and well-being
  • Help family members overcome barriers and identify strengths to meet the child(ren)’s needs for safety, permanence, and well-being
  • Report any potentially dangerous situations or safety plan violations to DHS or law enforcement
  • Help parents improve diminished protective capacities
  • Knowledge of dynamics of high-risk families including sexual abuse and domestic violence
  • Coordinate case activities with Program Supervisor, DHS/Child Welfare, Juvenile Department, schools and other community partners
  • Relate effectively with children, adolescents, parents, staff, and the community
  • Maintain client confidentiality
  • Provide a range of services including parent education, brief counseling, communication skills, home management, budgeting, stress reduction, stabilization of home environment, and other change or safety services
  • Maintain accurate and current client records, including weekly progress notes, treatment plans, and authorization requests, within the electronic client record (ECR), and sign documents to meet contract requirements.
  • Refer client to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling as appropriate and suggested by caseworker
  • Conduct parent-child coaching and interaction sessions
  • Participate in DHS and other community partner meetings
  • Maintain and carry out all scheduled appointments that are part of the safety plan

Working Conditions:

  • Variable hours, depending on need and schedule of clients.
  • Services are provided in the community and in client homes.
  • May be required to work afternoon, evening and/or weekend hours.
  • Will travel locally with own vehicle. Must be insured with minimal liability insurance.
  • Vision sufficient to read client records and related documentation
  • Ability to stand, work, and drive throughout the day.
  • Mobility, including occasional lifting a minimum of 20 lbs., bending, stooping, and reaching, and dexterity sufficient to assist clients and handle required job related functions.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases found in children and the public.
  • Ability to cope with clients who may use challenging or offensive language with potential for escalation to physical aggression.

* Positions that require driving clients must maintain vehicle insurance as required by law, with a minimum of $100,000/$300,000/$100,000 personal auto liability coverage (proof of insurance will be required).
