Summary:

The Senior Instructor provides training to more senior naval personnel and civilians on naval maintenance staffs and acts as a subject matter expert (SME) for material condition readiness.

Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide process improvement recommendations to TYCOM staff (Demonstrated Experience)

  • Effectively communicate and serve as an instructor and mentor to senior officers and senior civilian maintenance management

  • Provide training to Port Engineers and other shore management personnel such as Availability Work Package (AWP) managers as well as Type Desk Officers and Type Desk Assistants

  • Participate in course development and provide training in the following courses: 3.3.4.4, 3.3.4.5, 3.3.4.7, 3.3.4.8, 3.3.4.9, 3.3.4.10, 3.3.4.11, 3.3.4.12, and 3.3.4.13

    • Department Head/CPO Refresher

    • Ships Maintenance Material Officer (SMMO)

    • Basic Division Officer INDOC (Surface Warfare Officer School - SWOS)

    • Department Head School (SWOS)

    • Surface Command Course (SWOS)

    • Major Command Course (SWOS)

    • Availability Planning (Ward Room and CPO) Shipboard

    • Availability Execution (WR/CPO/WCS) Shipboard

    • Shore Manager/Corrosion

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS

  • Shipboard and staff experience in officer leadership roles in material condition readiness

  • Experience in providing training at the Senior Officer level (often 05 and 06 audience) and ship's wardrooms

  • Recent experience (two (2) years within last five (5) years as instructor related capacity for surface Navy maintenance subject matter)

  • Experience in shore management programs

  • Demonstrated experience providing process improvement recommendations to TYCOM staff

  • Recent (within last five years) experience integrating maintenance management AIS tools into billet/level based materials that address execution level of detail for each shipboard and support role

  • Recent (within last five years) experience conducting technical briefs at all levels of shipboard and ashore maintenance managers in all Fleet ports and supporting Shore infrastructure

  • Relevant experience at the most senior levels of TYCOM or Fleet staff in an assessment or a key maintenance management leadership role

  • Served at least 20 years in the United States Navy as an officer and achieved the rank of O-5

  • Had command of at least one United States surface ship

  • Spent a minimum of two years on an Echelon III or higher U.S. Navy surface ship staff

Clearance: Secret

Location: Norfolk, VA

Travel: Mayport, FL, San Diego, CA, Rota, Spain, Bahrain, Yokosuka, Japan and other locations as required, normally for periods of less than 30 days.
