Network Engineer Apprentice 

Description

The Network Engineer Apprentice will assist the Network Engineer II and I in maintaining and troubleshooting of Fiber Optic based Metro Ethernet, DOCSIS 1.1 - 3.0 cable modem, IP, and optical transport infrastructure, as well as, technology testing, and implementation support for new network technology deployments. The Network Engineer I will also assist in generating detailed engineering documentation to support the installation, configuration, and ongoing support of all new network deployments and upgrades.

Maintain and update engineering records including network maps, IP allocation records, and wavelength plans.

Monitor utilization trends and perform capacity planning for all network infrastructures.

Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot underlying data and fiber network transport to support data, voice and video applications.

Maintain configuration files for all devices required for new technology deployments.

Assist Network Engineer I in evaluation of hardware and software.

Test new data and fiber network equipment and code upgrades.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of networking technologies and industry trends which may improve operations or offer opportunities for new services, and develop recommendations accordingly.

Respond to customer issues, work to resolve issues or escalate to Network Engineer II for assistance

 
Position Requirements

Must have a High School Diploma or GED

 Must have a valid Driver's License

 Must have one of the following certifications / qualifications:

  1. A+
  2. Network +
  3. MCSA, Microsoft Certified System Administrator
  4. CCT Cisco Certified Technician
  5. CCENT Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician
  6. CCNA Cisco Certified Network Associate
  7. 1 year experience directly involved in network maintenance and support.
 
Physical/Environmental Requirements Mobility to work in typical office settings using standard office equipment is required. In addition, vision to read printed materials and computer screen and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Cold and noise in equipment rooms.
