HR Generalist 

Description

The Columbia Group is seeking a HR Generalist to perform a variety of HR-related duties and will work closely with Senior Leadership in supporting the objectives of the organization. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, affirmative action, employment law compliance, and training. This position may be based out of our Fairfax, VA or our Washington DC office.



Duties:




  • Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all company personnel.

  • Performs benefits administration to include, processing benefit changes, managing the open enrollment process, claims resolution, approving invoices for payment, communicating benefits information to employees, and serving as a liaison between employees and the benefit providers.

  • Responsible for overseeing and administering the onboarding process, including conducting new hire orientations, processing new hire paperwork, and verifying employment eligibility through E-verify.

  • Develops and maintains the affirmative action program; prepares and files EEO-1 and VETS-4212 reports annually; and maintains other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.

  • Responsible for annual reporting of the 1095-C and 1094-C forms under the Affordable Care Act.

  • Handles employee relations issues and assists managers in progressive discipline and performance improvement plans.

  • Maintains the Employee Handbook; develops and implements company policies to ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.

  • Administers FMLA and COBRA benefits as well as coordinating with applicable vendors to process Worker's Compensation and disability claims.

  • Administers Performance Management to include drafting communications when performance reviews are due, training leads on the process, and tracking completed reviews.

  • Manages the compensation program; monitors the performance evaluation program and revises as necessary.

  • Processes separation paperwork and responds to employee inquiries regarding the separation process.

  • Maintains HR records in the Ascentis HRIS and develops reports and metrics for management, as required.

  • Researches and responds to general employee and manager inquiries related to benefits, company policies, and other HR related topics.



 
Position Requirements Required Education and Experience
• A bachelor's degree and 5 – 7 years of HR experience, or a master's degree in HR management and 3 years of experience in the HR field, or 7+ years of experience in the HR field, or any similar combination of education and experience.
• Applies in-depth professional-level knowledge to independently solve a full range of complex problems.
• Demonstrated track record of coordinating and managing human resources initiatives or projects.
• Working knowledge, understanding and application of HR principle concepts, practices and appropriate employment laws.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and experience building relationships with all levels of personnel.
• Proficient in MS Office.
• Exhibits a professional demeanor with complete respect for confidentiality of sensitive data.
• Ability to travel to local offices and customer sites in Washington, DC and Virginia.

Preferred Education and Experience
• Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) credential.
• Familiarity with the Applicable Large Employer (ALE) requirements under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), specifically in populating and administering the 1095-C and 1094-C forms on an annual basis.
• Experience using and generating reports from a Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
• Experience working in the government contracting industry.
• Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
