Summary: Manages insurance sales activities of multiple locations within a specific market by establishing goals and activities to attain new customer relationships and retain and grow existing relationships. Develops staff through ongoing coaching sessions, to ensure that all are personally committed to consistently exceeding customer expectations every time, everywhere. Plans, directs and controls insurance sales office operations, ensuring that established policies and procedures are followed and delegating responsibilities as needed to meet office objectives. Plans, directs, and engages other sales departments (Mortgage, Retail, Business Banking, etc.) to meet overall sales objectives via 'Critical Linkage'. Maintains daily contact with insurance staff, frequent internal and external customer contact, and also has frequent contact with industry and community associations in the course of developing business activities. Performs all duties in accordance with the Vision and Core Values (Customers, Excellence, Ethics, Employees, and Communities) of River Valley.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  1. Identify needs and refer customers to business partners within and across lines of business who can best meet those needs.
  2. Assess marketing potential of new and existing locations, considering statistics and expenditures.
  3. Confer or consult with department heads to plan advertising services.
  4. Monitor customer preferences to determine focus of sales efforts.
  5. Develops and implements written short-and long-term plans for achieving insurance growth, sales, fee income and service goals.
  6. Manages and inspects sales efforts on a daily basis by setting individual goals and coaching sales staff. Establishes goals that are: specific and measurable for referrals that include selling and cross selling by product and volumes, all with a consistent emphasis on total customer relationships, growing existing relationships and truly delivering a great customer experience.
  7. Selects, trains, develops, schedules, assigns work to, manages and reviews job performance of insurance staff. Interviews and hires quality staff that is engaging, verbal and assertive, and possesses strong sales abilities.
  8. Manages, directs, understands and/or participates in as needed in all insurance operations to ensure all company services are made available to customers and are processed accurately and efficiently. Ensures the insurance is equipped with all required supplies and promotional support to optimally sell insurance products.
  9. Facilitates 'Critical Linkage' to manage development and maintenance of client relationships and identify referral opportunities throughout Business Banking, Mortgage, Wealth Management, Insurance and Retail Departments.
  10. Meets individual sales accountability expectations.
  11. Works staff within market of responsibility to help them meet sales and insurance operations expectations.
  12. Develops, maintains and cultivates community and new business contacts with important market sources to enhance insurance visibility and maximize business development opportunities.
  13. Operates in full compliance with internal policies and procedures as well as applicable regulations and laws.
  14. Upholds and insurance's philosophy and all policies by maintaining appropriate controls to assure full compliance with applicable laws and regulations, thereby fulfilling legal responsibilities and enhancing the quality of our organization. Responsible for the understanding, knowledge and management of all required training and compliance issues.
  15. Oversees the general maintenance of the facility. Reports equipment and building status; recommends and arranges for building improvements. Maintains a neat and professional atmosphere at all times. Ensures all security procedures are strictly followed. Protects all funds, physical assets and property of the insurance agency within budget in cooperation with River Valley Facilities and Security.

Other Responsibilities:

Perform other related duties as required or assigned that are in the spirit of this job description and position as necessary for the Bank and the Department to function effectively.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
